Mr. Washington is a new name to me this fall season but man he was on a mission Friday night putting the team on his back all night long. This young man is one heck of a downhill runner that can play through contact and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder either. Pair this with his ability to maintain a low center of gravity and you have a downhill runner that was a workhorse finishing the game with 39 carries for 204 yards as well as 4 TDs on the night. All night long he was a menace with the ball in his hands as the Kay’s defense had no answer to stopping this young man. I was thoroughly impressed by this young man and if I was a college coach I would get eyes on him right now. Twitter
Matheno Fuller
Matheno Fuller
Mr. Fuller is an offensive lineman that has a good frame standing at 6’3 315 that has a strong initial punch when blocking in-line. All night long he was able to jolt defenders upright when doing so creating a lane for his teammate to hit – this is exactly what happened on a few TD runs by Mr. Washington. In terms of his pass protection, he does flash his ability to anchor absorbing the bull rush to keep the pocket clean for his QB. Overall, this is a young man that has untapped potential to come to light and with further development could be a steal for a program at the next level. Twitter
Kenny Rutherford
Kenny Rutherford
Mr. Rutherford was a menace securing open field tackle on the perimeter all night long limiting the chances of the ball carrier turning the corner on his side of the field. He got involved in run support all night long in the flat as well as flowing to the ball well coming from opposite field to secure the tackle on the play. In terms of pass coverage, he was able to come away with an INT in the 2nd quarter as he went up for the 50/50 ball and secured the INT by high pointing the ball. Be sure to keep an eye on this young man as we head into the Quarterfinals. Twitter
Mr. Gist was on fire Friday night finishing with 4 TDs to end the game. He did so by adding a touch on level 3 throws on deep shots downfield and leading the receiver just enough away from the defender to win over top. One of these balls was very impressive at it was just outside the reach of the Kays highly talented safety. This young man was also able to stand strong in the pocket to get the ball off under pressure as a defender is in his face to keep the chains moving. This was the first time I got a chance to see this young man in action and he was impressive to say the least. Twitter
Landon Newby-Holesome
Landon Newby-Holesome
Mr. Newby-Holesome is a fullback that was the lead blocker paving the way for Mr. Washington’s 4 TD performance Friday night. His ability to jolt defenders upright at the point of attack creating a lane for his teammate to hit was one to watch as he did to on both inside as well as outside the tackle runs. It’s not everyday that you see a true fullback getting it done run blocking. Let’s not also forget about his 76 yard TD reception in the 2nd where he ran a wheel route and used his foot quicks to win the footrace into the endzone as well as his other receiving TD in the 4th. Franklin Odom
Franklin Odom
Mr. Odom is the backup running back to Mr. Washington and the very first play he had he broke a long run for a 62 yard TD run in the 4th – wow. He did so by bursting through the hole and using his foot quicks to gain a step on the 2nd level defenders quickly as he stays N/S getting into the endzone. For the rest of the game, he gave an insight into his hard running ability as he keeps his feet driving through contact fighting for extra yards each carry. Safe to say Peoria has another solid back in their arsenal.
Honorable Mention
Eli McFadden 23′ DB 5’11 170
Ricky Hearn Ricky Hearn 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Peoria | 2023 State IL Jr 23′ WR 6’1 185
Tq Webb 25′ WR 5’10 165
