Tyrone Kennedy Jr
Tyrone Kennedy Jr
Mr. Kennedy Jr works as a cornerback and was involved in run support all night long. This resulted in him either making open field tackles on the perimeter as well as being able to secure tackles in the hole for little gain on the play. Where he shined the most was in pass coverage where he was able to stay on the receiver’s hip and stay step for step to stay in a position to make a play on the ball. This is exactly what he was able to do forcing a PBU on a comeback route as well as contesting deep shots downfield forcing incomplete passes. He also has the ability to press the outside receiver slowing down the WRs release off the line. With this current season coming to an end, look for this young man to continue to hone his craft this off season and make his mark during his senior season campaign. Twitter
Mr. Hill is easily one of the top players in the entire state for his class and holds a handful of P5 Offers. His ability to close quickly to make a play in both run support and pass coverage is impressive to say the least. Throughout the night this young man was able to close quickly from his safety position to blow up screen plays to his side of the field. Late in the game, the Kays put this young man in as QB where he used his foot quicks to turn the corner quickly and is a hard runner not going down easily fighting for every yard. Going up against a run heavy team this young man didn’t get many opportunities to showcase his talents as as ball hawk safety but don’t let that confuse you, he is by far one of the best safety’s in the state that Illinois has to offer to the next level. Highlights
Demere Turner
Demere Turner
Mr. Turner was splitting snaps with Tony Phillips Tony Phillips 5’7″ | 160 lbs | RB Kankakee | 2024 State IL and wow this young man’s burst through the line of scrimmage is one to keep an eye on. Once he find the running lane between the tackles he hits it hard and can gain a step on second level defenders to keep the chains moving – unfortunately each time he did so it got called back from a penalty but his skill set was on display nonetheless. I’m very interested to see what his full season highlights look like to get a better look here but his potential is one to be excited about. Twitter
Larenz Walters
Larenz Walters
Mr. Walters has the ability to hit deep shots downfield on a level 3 throw putting the ball into the receiver’s basket downfield. He did so on more than one occasion giving his receiver a chance to come down with the 50/50 ball and the receiver did multiple times – yet again most of these big plays were called back due to penalties. Since the air attack was stalling out, this young man took things into his own hands using his mobility to keep the chains moving. When he did so, he was able to use his foot quicks to break long runs as well as keep the chains moving. By doing so he was able to finish with 2 TDs (1 rushing & 1 passing) and 1 INT on the night. Simply put, it wasn’t Kankakee’s year to make a run like they did last season but be sure to keep an close eye on Mr. Walters next fall as he looks to bounce back and lead the Kays back to the state finals. Mr. Phillips is a transfer from Bishop McNamara that is one of the most electric ball carriers that we have in the state for the class of 2024. His burst through the hole paired with his lateral quickness to turn the corner make him a threat both on inside as well as outside the tackle runs. This all happens from his vison which he uses to find the running lanes quickly and can patiently wait for his lead blocker to get into open space before using his quick burst to gain a step on 2nd level defenders. Be sure to keep a close eye on this young man next fall as his P5 Offers are sure to climb and he’ll be a man on a mission as well. Twitter
Highlights
I’ve had the pleasure of covering Mr. King for the last few seasons and each season he has continued to improve his skill set. Transitioning last fall from a halfback to receiver has been nothing but productive for this young man as his talent was on display Friday night. This all starts with his big playmaking ability to go up for 50/50 balls to secure contested catches on deep shots downfield. He did so on more than one occasion in this contest by playing above the rim over the defender – talk about an impressive ability to out jump the defender as he tracks the ball and high points to secure the catch. He can also work back to the ball and can get out of his breaks quickly. To finish the game, he finished with a KOR TD and receiving TD in the 4th putting some of the only point on the board for the Kays. Twitter
