I had Mr. Davis as my way too early 3A MVP and he’s proving me right with another impressive performance during the first round of the playoffs. The Eastern Illinois Commit finishes with 4 passing TDs with 1 rushing TD and 1 INT on the night. He also got in for a two point conversion off a QB design run all adding to how he’s a top dual threat QB in the state. His mobility was on full display Friday night where he can weave in/out of defenders in open space and isn’t afraid to run through defenders. This young man’s ability to make all level throws and add a touch when needed is impressive. Let’s not forget about his ability to stand strong in the pocket with a defender in his face to deliver a strike to keep the chains moving. He also isn’t afraid to get involved in run blocking when they run student body either. All around athlete with nothing but good things to say about his skill set. Eastern Illinois is getting a good one. Twitter
Augie Christiansen
Augie Christiansen
Mr. Christiansen is a new name to me this season and one that immediately made his impact felt in the ground game. Right out of the gate he showcased his hard running by keeping his feet driving through contact to break weak grab tackles racking up yards after contact. Pair this with his vision to find the running lanes and foot quicks through the hole and you get a young man that continues build upon a good regular season performance. Coming into this game, he had 15 total TDs off 805 rushing yards in the regular season. In this matchup, he ended up using his foot quicks through the hole to break a 25 yard TD run in the first ang got into the endzone a second time in the 2nd. This young man also plays linebacker where he flashed his ability to close when coming on a blitz to come away with a QB sack. All in all, this is a young man that’s a hard downhill style runner that can maintain a low center of gravity when doing so. Twitter
Noah LaPorte
Noah LaPorte
Mr. LaPorte is a deadly X receiver working on the outside and is an impressive safety as well. This young man finished the night with 3 TDs on the night with two coming off deep shots over the top and the other coming off a 3 step slant across the middle of the field. What stands out the most about this young man is his long catch radius as it gives him the opportunity to both play above the rim and secure catches well outside the frame of the defender guarding him. When he runs underneath routes he can plant his foot into the ground to get vertical gaining extra yards on the play. Switching over to defense, he can play the alley well by closing quickly and driving through the tackle. Overall, this is a dominant up and coming receiver and a rangy safety that can work sideline to sideline. I’m very interested to see how he develops over these next few years and how high his ceiling is when it’s all said and done. Twitter
Payne Miller
Payne Miller
Mr. Payne works on the line, both on the offensive and defensive line. On offense, he was a menace all night long jolting defenders upright creating running lanes for his teammate to hit when he’s blocking in-line. In terms of his pass pro, he showcased his ability to mirror and can finish the play by putting the defensive end into the dirt at times too. On defense, he works as a defensive tackle where he was able to stuff the run by shooting gaps in run support plugging up running lanes. What I’m interested to see out of this young man is where he lands and how high his stock can reach. Standing at 6’2 he has a solid foundational skill set with an extra year left to hone his craft further. A name to keep an eye on. Twitter
Danny Cihocki
Danny Cihocki
Mr. Cihocki is another new name to me this season that secures a seam route for 6 in the 2nd, he did so by checking and releasing to become wide open before using his foot quicks to beat pursuit angles into the endzone. He can also line up on the outside where he flashes his ability to close space and get to the defender’s toes breaking the route off creating separation on a 3 step slant. Switching over to defense, he works as a linebacker that flashes his ability to shoot gaps for no gain and holding C gap control. This young man could very well end up with a TD each game during Princeton’s playoff run as defenses at times forget about the check and release tight end in the air attack. Twitter
Ian Morris
Ian Morris
Mr. Morris was a force when square pulling all night long as he was the lead blocker kicking out defenders and putting them into the dirt giving his teammate a alley to hit. This physicality is what you love to see out of an offensive lineman and is seen on the defensive side of the ball as well where he works as a linebacker. Here, he can slip blocks to disrupt plays in the backfield both on inside and outside the tackle runs. All in all, look for this young man to continue to be a menace on both sides of the ball during Princeton’s playoff run and over the next few seasons as well. Twitter
