As I predicted this was a close game that ended with only a touchdown separating the two teams. Although Vancleave’s John Peterson(RB) and Hunter Parker(QB) rushed for a combined total of 300 yards however East Central’s TJ Dunsford(MLB) and company were able to keep the Bulldogs to 3 touchdowns and finish the game out strong. Peterson currently remains as the top rusher in the state with nearly 1,900 yards for the season. For the Hornets, Eli Smith(RB) did an excellent job of taking care of the ball while also putting his team in positions to score and ultimately put the game away. Game manager and signal caller Andrew Marble(QB) for the Hornets did exactly what was asked of him. This included taking care of the ball, preventing turnovers, and leading his team in a heavily contested game. He has shown that although he may not be the most flashy quarterback that he can make plays when it really matters and put a game away.
For the East Central Hornets, the season continues into the second round of the playoffs where they will face another formidable team and will need to rely on these same athletes to grant them a desirable outcome.
For the Vancleave Bulldogs, however, the season ends on a somewhat bitter note. Their team was well-manned with talented individuals and it is always difficult to lose such a close game with a winner taking all consequence. Nevertheless senior running back John Peterson has the capability to play at a high-level in college next year should he decide to go that route.
Congratulations to the East Central Hornets on making it to the next round of the playoffs
