Other teams unfortunately packed their bags for the rest of the year, despite their valiant efforts. Below, we have noted a few of our favorite winners from week 1 of the playoffs, who we feel are highly likely to continue to progress the deeper they get into post season play.
Westlake
This past weekend, Westlake played in one of the more anticipated matchups of the weekend. In this game, they matched up against the strong, dominant, south Georgia team, Valdosta. In this game, while the score seems a bit closer than the game was played, Westlake seemed to apply pressure on the Wildcats all game. Through 4 quarters, they scored a touchdown each quarter. By the end of the game, they beat the 8-3 Valdosta team, 28-13, and proved how dominant, and strong of a team they are against a notable powerhouse program. In this game, while offense was productive, defense proved to be very stout, and reliable. Look for them to continue to get hot throughout the playoffs.
Grayson
It should not be a surprise that Grayson has continued to show out, and put on a show for their fans. As expected, in round 1 of the playoffs, they continued their dominance, and routed Hillgrove, and finished the game with a final score that read 30-3. Hillgrove, who finished the season with a 3-8 record, stood no chance against the now 9-2 Grayson Rams. In this game, Davis threw for 170 yards, but the running game was also solid, as they put up a collective 161 yards on the ground. Defensively, the Rams continued to shine as well, putting up 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 4.5 sacks. Expect them to keep rolling in the coming weeks.
Milton
This past week, in the first round, Milton came and did what they were supposed to do. As a result of this, they came out on top 28-14 over Cherokee with a final score that read 28-14. Perhaps one of the biggest stars of the game was Luke Nickel Luke Nickel 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Milton | 2025 State GA , who threw for 244 yards, and 2 TD’s. Scott Moskowitz also shined for his team, running for a total of 159 yards. Defensively, the team also did very well, as they did a good job of making timely stops, and forcing a turnover as well.
Carrollton
As expected, Carrollton has continued their dominance, and looks to be facing a strong Marietta team in the 2nd round of the playoffs because of it. Last week, they steamrolled a bit of a weaker, yet tough Lowndes team, who is typically known for their dominance, and strong play. By the end of the game, they came out on top with a final score of 38-14. In this game, Freshman QB, Julian Lewis Julian Lewis 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Carrollton | 2025 GA , continued to shine for his team, as he threw for 221 yards, and a TD. Carrollton also ran the ball very well, putting up nearly 138 yards and 2 TD’s on the ground. Even with all this offensive success, one of the things that stood out the most was the high level of defensive production. In this game, it almost appeared as if Lowndes never had a chance. Hopefully for Carrollton, they can keep this up in the coming weeks.
