Because of this, we take it more seriously each time a team comes away with a win. Below, we listed some of our favorite standout winners within the 6A playoffs this past week. Look for some of these teams to continue to progress forward after their next matchups.
Langston Hughes
After a dominating win over River Ridge, Langston Hughes has continued to show opposing teams why they are one of the strongest teams in the postseason, regardless of the level, or division of play. After beating River Ridge 49-6, they continued on to an 11-0 record, and are looking on to their next match up against North Forsyth. In this upcoming match up, they will likely hope to fire on all cylinders as they just did, especially on all phases of the game. Last week, Prentiss Noland Prentiss Noland 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Langston Hughes | 2024 State GA continued to shine, passing for 24 yards, and 3 TD’s. In addition to this, Hughes’ running game also shined, as the combination of Savage and Middlebrook continued to wreck the opposing defense. Even more notably though, the defense played an absolutely stellar game, and did not give anything, making it an even longer day for the opposing team.
Woodward Academy
While Woodward Academy’s win over Riverwood may have seemed routine, we believe their win was a bit of a statement to the other top tier teams in the state. This year, Woodward Academy has already achieved a 10-1 record, and proved that they are not done yet. Next week, they play a big game against Lee County, and will hope to put up plenty of points, just as they did in their 41-13 win this week. Nevertheless, players who shined last week, and are worth keeping an eye on next week include the likes of Jalen Woods Jalen Woods 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Woodward Academy | 2023 State GA , who threw 5 TD’s, as well as Ben Grice, Andrew Hines Andrew Hines 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Woodward Academy | 2024 State GA , and Caden Morris.
Roswell
Just like Woodward Academy, Roswell had an important game this past week, and they made the most out of it by blowing Lanier out 55-8 on their own home turf. Because of this, they move on to Allatoona next week, and will hope to replicate some of their success. Players who played well and are worth tracking next week include, KJ Smith, Nykahi Davenport, Christopher Elko, Heath Purdie, Mark Trigg, and Stone Smith. If Roswell can continue to click on all cylinders, we believe they have a chance of making a run, especially due to their well rounded talent.
Houston County
In a very close win, Houston County found a way to overcome Brunswick as they tallied up a final score of 29-28 in OT. In this game, Houston County showed fight on both sides of the ball, and was barely able to pull out a win against a very talented Brunswick team. In this game, Antwann Hill Antwann Hill 6'4" | 215 lbs | QB Houston County | 2025 State GA Jr. threw for 404 yards and 4 TD’s, and Ryan Taleb also ran for 165, proving how versatile their offense is. To add to this, the defense finished the game with 42 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and plenty of situational plays that resulted in momentum for their team. All in all, even though the defense could be a bit better in some aspects, they still finished strong, and appear to be strong enough to help Houston County to more wins in the future.
