Each of these teams are talented enough to not only win in their level of play, but they have each beaten teams that are arguably more talented, and developed than they are. Because of this, we hold the standout winners in 5A in very high regard, and believe that you should too. If you have any doubts, take a look at the few teams we have listed below, and we doubt that you will be disappointed.
Kell
After a dominating season that witnessed Kell score 357 points, while only allowing 172 points, the Longhorns went on to win their first round playoff game. In this game, they defeated a talented Lithia Springs 38-22, and have continued their winning streak they established the past few weeks. In this game, while their defense may not have had its best game this season in terms of points allowed, the team still played a hard game on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the team accounted for a listed total of 24 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery. Offensively, the team threw for 201 yards, rushed for 318, and accounted for 4 TD’s. As the rest of the playoffs get rolling, Kell may be a threat to plenty of teams, especially if this is what an off week for their defense looks like.
Warner Robins
Warner Robins, who has been a tad up and down the past few years, has found themselves in the playoffs, despite a 6-4 record beforehand. Regardless, it is a new season for them now, and it is up to them to make the most of where they currently are. Last week, against Jenkins, Warner Robins came out on top with a 31-13 win. If they can execute well on both sides of the ball, we have no doubt that they will be able to compete well against Northside this week, who currently sits with a 10-1 record. Players that will need to show up for them in order for them to win include that of Vic Burley, Nick Reeves Nick Reeves 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL Warner Robins | 2024 State GA , Malcolm Brown Malcolm Brown 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Warner Robins | 2023 State GA , Ronjaden Adair, and Chaz Sturn.
Northgate
Despite being 4-6 on the season, Northgate played just good enough in their region, finishing with a 3-1 regional record that helped them to the playoffs. This not only happened to be enough to help them get their foot in the door, but once they were able to play their first game, they showed out, and got the win against Arabia Mountain. In this game, they defeated them 38-14, and will be matching up against Dutchtown this week. Against Arabia Mountain, the rushing attack for the Vikings was their primary strength, and we encourage them to stick with this approach, as well as their ability to lean into their defense, to help them win a potential round 2 playoff game.
Cartersville
Cartersville, home of Trevor Lawrence, and various other stars, has played very well this season, racking up a 10-1 record, and they look as if their best football is still ahead of them. In their first round matchup against Clarke Central, they took care of business in the same fashion in which they were expected to. They dominated them 43-7, and their defense was on full display, making timely stops, while also being able to pressure the passer consistently. By the end of the game, the Canes racked up a total of 26 tackles, with some of them being solo, and others being assists. In addition to this, their offense was also on full display, as Paul Gamble threw for 272 yards, and 4 TD’s, while their stable of RB’s accounted for a total of 114 yards, and 2 TD’s. As the playoffs continue to rage on, look for Cartersville to continue to dominate their competition, and make a case for themselves to be a potential championship contender.
