In Class 6A, Cleveland will be looking for the three-peat when they face La Cueva Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. scheduled kickoff) at Wilson Stadium in Albuquerque. The Bears outlasted Centennial, 42-35, in the semifinals Sat. afternoon at Field of Dreams.
In 5A, Artesia will make the long trip to Farmington to clash with Piedra Vista, which continues to write one of the best stories in New Mexico High School Football in 2022. Artesia trounced Deming, 49-12, Saturday on the Wildcats home field. Piedra Vista traveled to the Wool Bowl for the second time this season and beat Roswell, 13-7, after losing to the Coyotes by 18 points on the same field in September.
In 4A, Silver and Bloomfield will meet for the second time this season. Silver won the first matchup convincingly, 45-6, on a neutral field in Socorro but the 4A championship game will be played on Bloomfield’s home field. Silver beat Lovington, 23-7, in the semifinals. Bloomfield blasted Taos, 45-13.
In 3A, St. Michael’s reached the championship game for the second year in a row, beating top-seeded Socorro, 14-6, in a defensive struggle Friday night. The Horsemen will face Ruidoso, which will also be playing in a state championship game for the 2nd straight year. The Warriors lost at Lovington in the 4A title game last fall before moving to 3A.
