Shane Moreland
Shane Moreland
Moreland had a fantastic game Friday. He showed off his mobility as he was able to be an effective pulling guard. He did a good job of getting to the second level and blocking downfield. He showed great technique as he played with good pad level. He was able to get his hands inside defenders and turn them away from the play. Moreland is a bit undersized so this offseason will be a big one for him.
Ituka was a man amongst boys Friday. He carried Gaithersburg’s offense. He was dominant. He was breaking tackles left and right. He was running hard and racking up yards after contact. His speed was on display. He showed that he is not only a power back but has the ability to get to the outside and get chunk yardage by beating defenders to the corner. He showed off breakaway speed as he had a number of long runs. Ituka is one of the top backs in the state.
Highlights
David Avit
David Avit
Avit has taken the county by storm. He had another monster game Friday. He was gashing the Richard Montgomery defense. He knows how to get downhill and run hard and with power. He is a physical runner and loves to run it in between the tackles. He is also a contributor on defense. He is a very good run stopper and makes a lot of run stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. Avit has been a beast for Churchill all year. The Avit Ituka battle next week will be exciting.
Philip Cooper
Philip Cooper
Springbrook went on the road to win a playoff game against an improved Kennedy team. Cooper was a big reason why. Cooper is a big guard. He is an old-school traditional guard. He likes to maul people in the run game. He does a good job of driving defenders off the ball. He also does a good job of controlling defenders and taking them away from the point of attack. Cooper is young and will develop into a very interesting prospect.
Nicholas Zayas
Nicholas Zayas
Zayas has been a reliable receiver for Walter Johnson and he stepped up his game Friday. He showed off he is a receiver that can do it all. He had some big plays by taking the top off the defense. He can also be a possession receiver that can move the chains. He showed that he can win 50/50 jump balls. He also showed he can run good routes and get himself open. He does a good job of getting uphill quickly after the securing the catch and earning yards after the catch.
Chris Tran
Chris Tran
Tran showed off some really good potential Friday. He is very quick off the ball and is able to engage with defenders before they get their hands on him. He is very mobile and is able to pull and pick up blocks. He has good awareness and is able to wall off defenders away from the hole. He needs to improve his strength, size, and his ability to drive defenders downfield. He is in the class of 2025 so he has plenty of time to improve, if he does he will be a force to be reckoned with.
