ATH Ryan Thompson Ryan Thompson 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Burns | 2023 State NC – Burns – An incredible performance for Thompson, who holds offers from Catawba, Norfolk State, and Wingate but should be garnering much more attention in my honest opinion. He had 5 Total Touchdowns – 4 Receiving and 1 Rushing TD from the WIldcat QB position. As a wide receiver, Thompson repeatedly torched single coverage all night long for big-time passing plays – he had to easily have over 200 yards in receiving yardage. As if that wasn’t enough, Thompson also played safety on defense. It was a special performance from a special player. Check out my interview with him after the game here.
QB Ben Mauney – Burns – A 2024 prospect, Mauney has grown leaps and bounds physically and on the field in his talent and performance. David Devine, his head coach, stated that this was probably the best game of his career. Mauney threw 6 touchdown passes by my count, and showed some very good dual-threat ability in being able to escape the pocket for some runs and make some big passing plays down the field. Standing at 6’2, Mauney showed tremendous touch on the deep ball, and made some big throws in the 2nd half with some impressive arm strength when the game got tight. Check out my interview with him after the game here:
QB Khamoni Robinson Khamoni Robinson 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Monroe | 2023 State NC – Monroe – Standing at 6’1 and 180 pounds, Khamoni is a dual threat in every sense of the word. I love how he scrambles to throw first and only runs if it is a wide-open lane or he feels like it’s a bigger threat to force a throw. In this game, he had several touchdown passes, and helped lead his team back to a tie on 2 occasions after being down 14 points. He lists offers from Catawba, Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Benedict, so it looks likely he will stay local for college which is an awesome thing because he is a special talent. I think he has good arm strength and accuracy, he was hurt in this game by some critical drops, but I thought he was matching Mauney throw for throw during the majority of the game.
ATH Jordan Young – Monroe – This was my first time seeing Jordan in person, and it was hard to believe I was watching a sophomore. He plays beyond his years – especially on offense at wide receiver. He runs good routes, and they went to him for some big catches at critical times to keep drives alive throughout the game. The most impressive thing is his agility with the ball in his hands. I don’t think on all of his catches he ever went down when the first defender tried to tackle him. He hit a spin move on a couple of occassions that was very smooth as an example. He current holds Division 1 offers from NC State and Duke, and I expect a lot more to come his way before he has some tough decisions to make.
