Continue ReadingOn Friday night, I had the pleasure of attending Manheim Township vs Hempfield. It was set to be a stellar rematch from a game in September that saw Hempfield win 17-14. The Blue Streaks, however, on Friday night had revenge on their mind and dominated in all facets on both sides of the ball. Hempfield was able to put together some success offensively but ultimately turnovers and missed ended up hurting them too much in this game.
That being said, there were still positives to take away from both teams in this game.
2024 DT Deyvid Palepale – Hempfield
Palepale is a player across the state that has broken out this fall and has become a top Power Five prospect. Originally from Alaska, Palepale made the move to the Keystone State a few years ago and has become a big part of Hempfield’s success on both sides of the ball. Palepale’s future is on the defensive side of the ball, he’s got solid size, and moves very well for someone carrying the weight that he does. Palepale was also given a tough matchup in this one as Manheim Township clearly was doing all they could to take him out of plays and they did a very good job of that with double teams and creative blocking.
2023 RB Grant Hoover – Hempfield
It wasn’t Hoover’s best day but I still like what I see out of the 5-foot-9, 170-pound tailback. He’s got top-notch speed that matches his reported 40-yard dash time of 4.45. I still believe he could be quite the dynamic weapon at the D2 level. Good speed, vision, and elusiveness as well.
2024 QB Hayden Johnson Hayden Johnson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Manheim Township | 2024 State PA – Manheim Township
Johnson was the player I came away the most impressed by on Friday night. It was my first time seeing him in person and he was highly impressive. His arm strength and accuracy are high quality but his ability to make plays with his legs, at the rate he did, was unexpected. Johnson possesses good speed but is quite elusive. He was making Hempfield defenders miss quite a bit, though the field was also quite slippery. That being said, despite that slipperiness, Jonhson didn’t appear to be affected by the field conditions.
We already have Johnson as our fourth-best quarterback in the class of 2024 and I can only see him rising in the future. Bonafide FCS level quarterback at the least with room to grow.
2025 RB Declan Clancy – Manheim Township
Clancy py plays both running back and linebacker for Manheim Township but I came away most impressed by his abilities on the offensive side of the ball. Clancy was a hard-nosed runner all night, running through the middle of a rather big Hempfield defensive line, he consistently broke tackles. His breakaway ability and speed in the open field were also impressive as he had several big runs in the open field both in the middle of the field and down the sideline.
Congrats to Manheim Township for moving on next week to the district finals and congrats to Hempfield on a terrific 2022 season and congrats to their senior class on wonderful careers. We wish all of Hmepfield’s seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors.
