In today’s game they have to be able to make the big play running the football, be elite pass catchers and pick up exotic blitzes. As we approach the Regional Final of the Texas State Playoffs we will spotlight several Factor Backs, who set the tone for their teams.
Owen Allen Owen Allen 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Southlake Carroll | 2023 State TX | Southlake Carroll | 6’0 205 | Class of 2023 | Twitter: @owenallen_slc
Allen sets the tone for the Dragon offense. His powerful running style allows him run between the tackles with authority, he uses his excellent vison to read his blocks well and he has the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Owen has the speed to score from any distance on the football field. Allen is also a threat in the passing game. He can line up in the slot or catch passes in the screen game. In the Dragons third round win over McKinney, Allen scored four touchdowns to pace the Southlake offense. This season Allen has rushed for 1.977 yards and 35 touchdowns. For his career at Southlake Carroll he has rushed for 7,451 yards and 118 touchdowns. Allen fits the mold of a Factor Back.
Caden Durham Caden Durham 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Duncanville | 2024 State TX | Duncanville | 5’10 190 | Class 2024 | Twitter: @CadenDurham29
Durham is a gifted runner who sets the pace for the Duncanville Panther running game. He has great patience, he sets up his blocks well using great vision and he explodes when he gets into the open field. Caden is a powerful runner with fluid hips, he runs with great leverage and his elusive running style allows him to make defenders miss in the open field. What makes Durham special is his next level speed to score from any distance. In a 35-3 win over The Woodlands in the third round, Durham rushed for over two hundred yards and three touchdowns. His explosive skill set was on full display against the Highlanders, as each one of Durham’s scores were from forty yards or more. Durham is the Factor Back who sets the tone for the Panther offense.
Taylor Tatum Taylor Tatum 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Longview | 2024 State TX | Longview | 5’10 200 | Class 2024 | Twitter :@taylortatum06
Tatum is an angry runner who loves to punish defenders and has a killer stiff arm. He runs with great leverage, he keeps his shoulders square when he gets in the hole and he sets up his blocks well using great vision. Taylor has oily hips, he has great feet and his powerful frame allows him to break tackles routinely. Tatum is a special runner who wears down defense behind a physical Longview Lobo offensive line and he possesses the explosive speed to make house calls routinely. In the second round vs Frisco Lonestar, Tatum rushed for two hundred sixty one yards on twenty seven carries with three touchdowns. He showed off his great hands against Port Arthur Memorial by making an over the shoulder grab for a touchdown. Tatum is definitely a Factor Back for the Lobos offense.
