To get you prepared for the action, we bring you some players to watch from each title contest. Here’s a look at the Class 3A matchup:
MOUNT VERNON (12-0)
- No. 9 Joey Rhomberg, ’24, QB, 6-2, 185 – I saw the Mustangs play at Solon early this season, and Rhomberg caught my eye. He commands the offense as a dual-threat performer. He’s completed 64.3 percent of his passes for 2,543 yards and 25 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He’s added 210 yards and four scores on the ground.
- No. 80 Brady Erickson, ’23, WR/DB, 6-3, 170 – Rhomberg spreads the ball around to a talented group of receivers, Erickson is his top target. He leads the Mustangs with 51 catches for 586 yards and eight touchdowns. He contributes a lot of defense as well, totaling 41.5 tackles (35 solo, 3.5 for loss) and intercepting a pass.
- No. 3 Henry Ryan Henry Ryan 6'1" | 165 lbs | RB Mount Vernon | 2023 IA , ’23, RB/DB, 6-2, 175 – Ryan leads Mount Vernon with 888 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He’s added 22 receptions for 184 yards. He has 54.0 tackles (44 solo, 4.5 for loss) with three interceptions.
- No. 21 Jackson Jaspers Jackson Jaspers 5'8" | 145 lbs | LB Mount Vernon | 2024 IA , ’24, RB/LB, 5-8, 155 – Don’t let his size fool you, Jaspers is a tackling machine. He leads the Mustangs with 100.0 stops (73 solo, 12.5 for loss). He’s added 2.5 sacks and a pick.
- No. 7 Evan Brase, ’24, WR/LB, 6-3, 180 – Another big target for Rhomberg, Brase has hauled in 48 passes for a team-high 640 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, the junior has 20 tackles (12 solo, 8.5 for loss) with 2.5 sacks.
HARLAN (11-1)
- No. 6 Aidan Hall Aidan Hall 6'1" | 195 lbs | WR Harlan | 2023 State IA , ’23, WR/S, 6-2, 200 – The University of Iowa commitment is a high-level athlete. He’s caught 48 balls for 825 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushed 72 times for 784 yards and 16 scores, and returned three kicks for 206 yards and two TDs. Defensively, he’s produced 23.0 tackles (21.0 solo, 3.5 for loss) with an interception and a recovered fumble.
- No. 11 Teagon Kasperbauer Teagon Kasperbauer 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Harlan | 2023 State IA , ’23, QB, 6-2, 200 – Kasperbauer is enjoying a wonderful season throwing the football. He’s completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,445 yards and with 37 touchdowns with only three interceptions. He doesn’t run much but has two scores on the ground.
- No. 14 Cade Sears Cade Sears 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Harlan | 2024 State IA , ’24, WR, 6-1, 180 – Sears leads the Cyclones with 898 yards receiving via 41 catches. He’s caught 13 touchdowns. He’s averaged 21.8 yards on four kick returns and 16.0 yards on 16 punt returns, housing one. He’s also intercepted a pass.
- No. 36 Matthew Sorfonden Matthew Sorfonden 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Harlan | 2024 State IA , ’23, LB, 6-0, 205 – Sorfonden paces Harlan with 61.0 tackles (36 solo, 9.0 for loss) and has 2.0 sacks. He’s intercepted two passes and recovered a pair of fumbles. He also returned a kick 64 yards for a touchdown.
- No. 21 Garrett Assmann, ’23, LB/TE, 6-1, 200 – Assmann has racked up 48.5 tackles (31 solo, 13.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks.
