We had a few underdogs win and a few favored teams performing incredibly well. This article will quickly rundown today’s action!
Caledonia defeats Clarkston 21-0
Caledonia just forced a goose egg on a team that was averaging 49PPG in the playoffs. I’ve seen a lot of credit go toward the Cal offense, but let’s give some credit to the defense! I watched some of this game, and the defense was absolutely swarming all night. Clarkston looked uncomfortable all game. This is an incredible achievement for Cal, and offers the first of many OK conference teams that are Championship bound.
Belleville defeats Cass Tech 29-28 (2OT)
A spectacular Friday night showcase with a lot on the line. These two powerhouses fought until the bitter end, and many big names produced big performances. The Belleville playmakers did well, but the Cass Tech secondary showed up as well. Belleville returns to Ford Field, and they’ll face a Caledonia team playing their best football.
Forest Hills Central defeats Dexter 20-17 (2OT)
This was a BLIZZARD game. For the vast majority of the game, it was 7-0 Dexter and it seemed that the Dreads were headed to Ford Field. Not so fast, as FHC forced OT, and make the most of their opportunities. After a tough FG decision by Dexter in the 2nd overtime, Forest Hills Central punched in the final touchdown for sweet, sweet victory.
De La Salle defeats Groves 43-15
It didn’t look like these teams belonged on the same field together. De La Salle has walked to the State Championship, both because of their dominance and because they honestly haven’t played any great teams. The Pilots will be favored next weekend against Forest Hills Central, but it’s going to be a hard-fought game. Forest Hills Central is a more well-rounded team than Traverse City Central was last season.
Muskegon defeats DeWitt 49-21
DeWitt scratched and clawed their way to this point, but Muskegon proved to be the much better team today. I’ve been itching to see Muskegon play all season, and I’m delighted to be able to see them next weekend. There are a LOT of prospects I’ll have my eye on for the Big Reds.
Detroit MLK defeats Mason 52-17
For the second year in a row, Mason and King fought it out for a championship spot. For the second year in a row, MLK crushed Mason. It’s only fitting that Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI attends another State Title for his senior season. Mason remains as one of the best teams in D3, but King is a true powerhouse.
South Christian defeats Edwardsburg 26-20
The Sailors got out to a big lead early and never let go. Edwardsburg fought hard to come back, but it was a deficit they couldn’t overcome.
Goodrich defeats Riverview 51-26
All eyes are on Goodrich now. They’ve blown out a few of the Championship favorites, and now they’ll face a mean South Christian team.
Gladwin defeats GRCC 28-21
Gladwin does the impossible! The G’s proved to be the better team, as they got off to a big early lead and made big plays down the stretch. Honestly, GRCC looked better conditioned towards the end of the game, but Gladwin sealed the deal with a game-clinching INT in the final minute. I’m looking forward to re-watching this game come rankings time to make judgements on many of the top players here.
Frankenmuth defeats Country Day 38-0
This doesn’t overly surprise me. Frankenmuth is a extremely well-drilled team and will attend another state championship, but this time not against Catholic Central.
Negaunee defeats Reed City 13-12
A true nail-biter.
West Catholic defeats Clinton 33-14
West Catholic is back! They are surely better than they were last season, and they house what’s probably the strongest and most well-drilled team in D6.
St. Francis defeats New Lothrop 53-8
St. Francis continues to dominate. Not surprised in the slightest here. I’m excited to watch this dominant team play next weekend.
Lumen Cristi defeats Napoleon 20-7
Lumen Cristi gets another one. State-Championship bound once more.
Whiteford defeats Everest 44-6
Another blowout.
