Georgia has plenty, so expect coaches to visit high schools across the state frequently. Here, we monitor some 2023 QBs in Georgia still looking for a home and why you should take a chance on them.
Ben Guthrie Ben Guthrie 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Alpharetta | 2023 State GA – Alpharetta
Guthrie entered his single season as a fairly productive QB over the course of his season, but he had a true breakout season to finish his career, nearly doubling in every passing metric. The 5’11 175 pound senior threw for nearly 3500 yards on the year with 38 TDs. He was fairly efficient while producing those numbers, only tossing 8 INTs and completing 61% of his passes. Guthrie is a twitchy and shifty athlete which allows him to evade pressure extremely well and keep plays alive. He is also good as a runner in the open field, making people miss, and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and fight for extra yards. He has decent arm strength which doesn’t fade when throwing on the move, he can put some nice spin on the ball and make highly competitive throws. Guthrie is as proven as any QB in Georgia, and he will get a shot to do some damage at the next level.
Cayman Prangley Cayman Prangley 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Kennesaw Mountain | 2023 State GA – Kennesaw Mountain
Prangley is yet another proven commodity at QB that has plenty of tools and upside. He is built nicely at 6’3 200 and has little wasted movements. His arm talent is off the charts, showing the ability to make each throw on the field, especially the ones that require more trajectory and touch. His ability to layer the ball over defenders and fit it into passing lanes is uncanny, he is one of the best in the state when it comes down to it. In the pocket, he is very calm and poised, almost like the game moves in slow motion to him. He processes things very naturally and senses pressure well, showing the ability to stand tall in the pocket and take some hits. Prangley is a big QB with a big arm, those two things alone should give him a shot at the next level.
Keegan Stover Keegan Stover 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2023 State GA – Rabun County
Both at West Forsyth and Rabun County, Stover has done nothing but produce at an extremely high level in his career, finishing with nearly 7500 passing yards and 86 TDs with just 10 INTs in his career. His high school career is over, but he has done more than enough to prove he is worthy of a spot at the next level. He is a large QB at 6’4 220 that can navigate the pocket well and stay upright. He is an extremely accurate passer that can make numerous throws, especially ones that require finesse. He has a big arm, but his ability to fight and keep plays alive at his size without being super fast is where he sets himself apart. He is a competitor that has won everywhere he’s been, which will prove valuable to someone at the next level.
Tate Morris – McIntosh
A year ago, Tate Morris was a complete unknown on the recruiting trail. Fast forward a year later, and he was one of the most if not the most productive QB in the state over the course of the 2022 season, finishing with over 3000 passing yards and 1000 rushing yards. As you could expect, Morris is an extremely dynamic signal caller with a lot of tools. He is a very explosive runner with RB-like vision and is not afraid to take some hits and fight through contact. As a passer, he has good mechanics and fights to keep plays alive. He has a strong arm, stepping into his throws and ripping the ball downfield. After exploding onto the scene, Morris has certainly proven to be worthy of a roster spot.
Jalen Woods Jalen Woods 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Woodward Academy | 2023 State GA – Woodward Academy
Woods has remained one of the most consistent QBs in the entire state, finishing with right around 70% passing each season as a passer. He also looks the part of a D1 QB prospect, standing on a 6’3 200 pound frame and showing really good mechanics both in the pocket and in his delivery. He has excellent vision and is a quick decision-maker, going through his progressions and delivering the ball to his teammates in a hurry. He has a lightning-fast delivery and good arm action, showing the ability to mix up arm angles and get the ball to places on the field that are rather difficult to reach. Woods has several D1 offers, and did nothing but prove himself as a bonafide D1 football prospect this season.
Jack Cendoya – Mount Pigsah Christian
Like Morris, Cendoya is another prospect that had a breakout senior season to put himself on the map. Cendoya was one of the state’s leading passers, passing for nearly 3500 yards on the year with 35 TDs against just 9 INTs. He was also a weapon on the ground, rushing for around 750 yards and 12 TDs. 4300 total yards and 48 total TDs is a pretty solid senior season if I do say so myself. He has a longer delivery and can absolutely rip the ball downfield. He also shows the ability to take some velocity off the ball and make touch throws. As you could expect, he is very quick and dynamic as an athlete, allowing him to be effective as a runner and extend plays. Cendoya is picking up some interest on the trail and is lowkey a can’t miss prospect.
