On a cold Friday night in Antioch, Tennessee, the Beech Buccaneers played one of their best games of the season at the right time of the year as they demolished the home Cane Ridge Ravens, 35-7 to advance to the Class 6A Semifinals and one win away from competing for a state title.
The game could have been a different story early as Cane Ridge had the ball first, drove it into the Bucs redzone but an interception from senior Caden Thieman Caden Thieman 5'8" | 170 lbs | WR Beech | 2023 TN shut that drive down and Beech would take control from there.
The Buccaneers scored on their 1st offensive possession then proceeded to score again on their second possession to take a 14-0 lead and let it be known that the home was going to be in for a long night!
Cane Ridge would answer back with a short pass from Shivan Abdullah Shivan Abdullah 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Cane Ridge | 2023 TN to running back Reggie Goodloe Reggie Goodloe 5'7" | 165 lbs | RB Cane Ridge | 2023 TN to bring the score to within seven but that’s as close as the Ravens would get the remainder of the game.
Beech immediately answered to push the score out to 21-7 but the great thing about the lead for the Bucs was how they got it. A team known for running the ball, the Buccaneers brought out the passing attack as junior Justyce Law Justyce Law 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Stratford | 2024 TN hit touchdown passes to Thieman and Tyler Nix Tyler Nix 6'4" | 220 lbs | ATH Beech | 2023 State TN throughout the game which was a pleasant surprise and a dynamic the Bucs may utilize more next week against Bartlett.
For the home Ravens, trailing 21-7 at half, they still had a glimmer of hope but they couldn’t allow many more points from Beech but that wasn’t the case as senior athlete J.P. Courtney J.P. Courtney 6'1" | 175 lbs | ATH Beech | 2023 State TN took the hand-off on the first play of the 2nd half and ran it 69 yards, all the way to the end zone.
That score from Courtney pretty much put the game in the books as the 21 point lead seemed to be too much for the Ravens to overcome as they just couldn’t get much going on offense nor slow down the Buccaneers offensive attack.
The Buccaneers defense was excellent all night long as they shut down the Ravens run game and blanketed their receivers for much of the game. Cane Ridge was able to move the ball at times but the Bucs played a great bend but don’t break defense that proved to be a recipe for success.
Beech would score one more time before the final whistle was blown for a 35-7 Quarterfinal road victory over a previously once beaten Cane Ridge football team.
It was an impressive performance and win from the Buccaneers but the path remains hard as they have to travel to Memphis next week to face a very talented Panthers ball club that has beaten some very strong teams this season.
