Plenty of talented teams have already lost, and been knocked out, but from the start, it has seemed as if there has almost been a clear cut difference between the top teams in 6A, from each of the other teams that have made it. With that being said, our Final 4, from the 6A level of play have come with little surprise, but plenty of excitement to see who can battle it out to become the top team in the state by the time it is all said and done. These 4 teams include the likes of Rome, Roswell, Gainesville, and Langston Hughes.
Langston Hughes
To this point of the season, Hughes has already scored 715 points, and have only allowed 146 points over a 13 game span, in which they have found themselves undefeated. All season long, Hughes has not won a “close game” as they have dominated their competition week after week, including a talented Woodward Academy last week- who fell to them, 56-28. In this game, just as they have all season long, talented players such as Prentiss Noland Prentiss Noland 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Langston Hughes | 2024 State GA , Jekail Middlebrook, Jaden Barnes, Justin Bond, Jelani Thurman Jelani Thurman 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , Terrance Love Terrance Love 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , and CJ Lockhart, Gannon Weathersby Gannon Weathersby 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA have been on full display. Look for these same players to be game breakers, and game changers this upcoming week.
Rome
Coming off a low scoring game against a very talented Marist team, Rome left with a 17-7 win. The tough news to give is that they will likely have to perform at a higher level if they want to defeat Langston Hughes in their next game. Regardless of this, players such as Stephiylan Green Stephiylan Green 6'4" | 270 lbs | DL Rome | 2023 State GA , and Alton Moore will help pressure the opposing offense this week. With this, offensive weapons such as Martel Hight Martel Hight 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Rome | 2023 State GA , Martavious Collins Martavious Collins 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE Rome | 2024 State GA , Reece Fountain Reece Fountain 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Rome | 2024 State GA , and Chance Arthur Chance Arthur 6'0" | 215 lbs | RB Rome | 2025 State GA will be ready to trade blows and show why they are one of the best, and most talented teams in the state. In fact, they have scored a total of 515 points, while only allowing 107 points this year. Next week will prove how stout, and well rounded they really are.
Roswell
This season, Roswell has achieved a 6-0 record in their region, with an overall 12-1 record, as they look forward to their game against Gainesville this weekend. This season, one of the biggest strengths of their team has been their defense, but unfortunately for them, they have allowed more points (64) in the past 2 weeks than they have in a 2-3 game stretch so far this season. Despite the defensive shortcoming, their offense has continued to shine, as they have scored a total of 545 points this season. Last week, KJ Smith passed for 242 yards, and 3 TD’s, while the team rushed for a total of 178 yards on the ground, and 3 TD’s- making them a very well-balanced attack. Next game, look for their offense to continue to put up a large amount of points, and for the match up to be a potential high scoring game.
Gainesville
As Gainesville prepares to play against Roswell this week, it is important to recognize where they have had success so far throughout the duration of the playoffs. Over the past few weeks, they have defeated Houston County, South Paulding, and Sprayberry, and have done so by convincing margins. Until their game against Houston County this past week, where the opposing team scored 35 points, Gainesville had not allowed more than 21 points to opposing teams throughout the playoffs. Perhaps, because of their team’s balance, and strengths on the defensive side of the ball, this could be why they have had plenty of success this season. Their 13-0 record is an indicator of this. Nevertheless, in their game last week, they executed in all aspects as Baxter Wright passed for 3 TD’s, Naim Cheeks rushed for 2 TD’s, and the defense put up 4 tackles for a loss, with Carmelo Byrd, Samaj Brown, and Jaquez Sims leading the way with additional tackles.
