Tupelo and Southaven in the north, and Ocean Springs in the south, all come into the playoffs with unblemished records and will look to keep the 0 in the loss column over the better part of the next month.
Without further ado let’s get into breaking down what is ahead in 6A:
MATCHUPS:
Starkville (8-3) @ Southaven (10-0)
Desoto Central (6-5) @ Clinton (6-4)
Lewisburg (5-5) @ Tupelo (11-0)
Madison Central (7-3) @ South Panola (8-2)
Hancock (6-5) @ Brandon (9-1)
Warren Central (9-1) @ Gulfport (9-2)
Northwest Rankin (4-6) @ Ocean Springs (10-0)
Biloxi (7-3) @ Oak Grove (9-2)
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Can Region 2 continue to dominate? For years it has seemed that no matter what happens in Region 2 with re-classification it has dominated Region 1 in the north half. Will we see that again this year with Tupelo led by Jeremiah Harrell Jeremiah Harrell 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Tupelo | 2024 State MS at QB and a big whopping offensive line anchored by Zay Alexander Zay Alexander 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Tupelo | 2023 State MS ? A 4-0 1st round for Region 2 is not out of question whatsoever.
GAME OF THE WEEK:
Lots of eyes will be on Warren Central at Gulfport on Friday night. Most would argue that the Vikings are the more well-rounded team, but will the long trip to the Mississippi gulf coast play a factor? WC will ride in on a 5 game winning streak led by the traditional stout Viking defense. Expect this one to be a slugfest with the winner most likely facing Brandon next week.
UPSET ALERT:
Southaven – This game has the feeling of those we’ve seen for many years that ultimately ends up being Region 2 besting Region 1 – will the Chargers have something to say about that? Starkville has struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball at times this season, but there is no shortage of talent for the Yellow Jackets led by Trey Petty Trey Petty 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Starkville | 2024 State MS and Braylon Burnside Braylon Burnside 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Starkville | 2024 State MS .
DARKHORSE:
Nobody is going to want to look across the field and see Oak Grove right now. The Warriors are riding a 6 game win streak and are possibly the hottest team in the state currently. Oak Grove has the best win of anyone in the state this season – beating Brandon earlier in the campaign. Keep an eye on the Warriors!
