Sam Leavitt Sam Leavitt 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB West Linn | 2023 State OR is playing as well as anyone in Oregon. He passed for 5 TDs in the first quarter last week just to put that into perspective. Grant was shutout by Roosevelt 3-0 to close their season.
#9 South Salem (8-1) @ #8 Sherwood (7-2) EVEN
This should be one of the most competitive games of the night. South has been playing well all year but haven’t played a top 10 team. The Bowmen feature one of the best football environments in all the Northwest but struggled with Liberty last week, winning 20-19. I will take South in a close one.
#13 Tigard (6-3) @ #4 Jesuit (8-1) JES -28.5
The Tigers should get a home game after a good season but the ridiculous consolation bracket nullified that. Jesuit and RB Payton Roth Payton Roth 6'4" | 200 lbs | RB Jesuit | 2023 State OR have been dominant beating their five Metro opponents by an average score of 53-12.
#12 South Medford (6-3) @ #5 Central Catholic (8-1) CC -45
As long as Cru Newman Cru Newman 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Central Catholic | 2024 State OR is the QB the defending state champs have a legit shot at another title. He has been unreal all year, keeping everyone involved offensively. South was blanked last week by North Medford 35-0. This should be over by half.
#15 Barlow (5-4) @ #2 Sheldon (9-0) SHEL -38
Overall the Bruins have played well this year, with all four losses coming against top 10 teams. That said as the Irish are on another level right now, with Brock Thomas Brock Thomas 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Sheldon | 2023 State OR and Teitum Tuioti Teitum Tuioti 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Sheldon | 2023 State OR both listed as Oregon 6A POY favorites heading into the playoffs.
#10 North Medford (6-3) @ #7 Lake Oswego (6-3) LO -5.5
North started slow but has been on a tear, winning 4 of their last 5, with an impressive 35-0 shutout of South Medford last week. LO is well coached but young, dropping a tough one to crosstown rival Lakeridge 14-9 in their finale. The Pacers had a tough year but they are loaded with talent, so the loss is somewhat deceptive. North has a real shot in this contest.
#14 Grants Pass (6-3)@ #3 Tualatin (7-2) TUAL -32.5
The T-Wolves have played OK the last few weeks, but have the potential to make a run if they can put it all together. After relatively close games against Oregon City and Tigard, it will be important to build some momentum before their quarterfinal matchup.
#11 Nelson (7-1) @ #6 Mountainside (8-1) MTSIDE -3.5
This should be another competitive game with both teams projecting as two of the fastest rising programs in the state . Sophomore QB Avirey Durdahl Avirey Durdahl 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Adrienne Nelson | 2025 State OR has played lights out all year, with their only loss of the season coming to the defending state champs. Mountainside has won three 1-point games this season and will have a real shot to reach the state semifinal if they can get a win here.
CONSOLATION BRACKET
I think it’s important to be real about this. A true competitor does not want to play for 17th place. Teams such as Westview, Lakeridge, and Oregon City could win a few playoff games in the big boy bracket. It’s always fun to see an underdog make a run come playoff time. Not everyone gets a trophy. Hopefully the OSAA will figure that out.
