Merkwan is a physical receiver that makes everyone play his game and make them bend his rules, that being he was simply unstoppable this year in the offense. He was able to reach above defenders on many occasions to pull passes down into him and while not having that many receptions compared to others, he sure had so many yards that put him in the upper echelon of receivers and not to mention all the TDs that he racked up over his time at the office. That being he was also sharing time with other elite weapons, he was the first option that he was the guy that their team look to if they needed yards or if they needed a go-to touchdown in that scenario. Merkwan is someone that has so much talent and so much ability, it would be a surprise if he does not have some success at some level of football if he decides to go there, and for that, he lands in our number-one spot at the end of the year rankings
- Nate Andresen Nate Andresen 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR Brandon Valley | 2023 State – Brandon Valley
Andresen is another player that I saw a lot of potential for going into the season I thought he had the potential to be a top receiver and he sure did that with the product that he put out on the field, being somewhat able to create separation in the secondary and ultimately proved himself to be a top-end wideout. He showed up game in and game out that he was nearly unguardable when he was in one-on-one coverage and had the ability to bust up zones, even some 4 high-looks defensive backs were not able to stop him, with his shiftiness and inability to get around them. it was impressive to see with the performances that he put out on the field this season and I’m very happy that he did this well, especially since I saw him as a more under the prospect when others were looking for different players, with that Landing him at our number two spot at the end of the year list.
- Tyler Sohler Tyler Sohler 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Yankton | 2023 State – Yankton
Sohler is a player that did not get much recognition this year but I think he is one of the best wide receivers in this class simply for the intangibles in the skills that he has. While his stats might not pop up the peerage compared to others, you have to remember that he was in a run-heavy offense and pass was not always the first option, but he ran around and played his position at such a high level compared to others, He has a great football IQ ability to play wide receiver at such a high level. He works hard and wants to outwork any 1 on the football field, with that mentality he always wanted to be the first one and the last one of them, improving his game and being arguably the best route running receiver at South Dakota has seen in a few years. Sohler played great this year and with that, he will land in at this year’s 3 spot as a wideout list.
- Tyan Buus Tyan Buus 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Pierre TF Riggs | 2024 State SD – Sturgis Brown
I love watching highlights of Buus simply for how well he plays football and how exciting it is, you can see how much he’s enjoying it and every single highlight that the judge has in his love of the game. Not only does he have a love of the game but his talent Shirley backs it up on the field, Being a star receiver that is able to catch passes in traffic I don’t run 4 touchdowns and burn defenders in the progress. It is very hard to contain and when he’s in one-on-one coverage while zone coverage schemes at times are able to contain him, he quickly adapts his game and works with his team to find ways to busted and get his teammates open ultimately allowing him to get into the end zone. His end-of-the-year numbers looked good and just watching him you see how talented of a receiver he is, and I view him in that upper echelon of receivers that we saw this year, landing at the number four a spot on the list.
- Jack Smith Jack Smith 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 State SD – Sioux Falls Lincoln
Smith really picked up at the end of the year with some big games and he really showed that he can be a bird a deep threat that is impossible to contain when he gets going. When Smith gets into the Zone it seems like at times it’s impossible to face him at all, gets into a mentality where he is going list with one thing and that’s to have his team win and he does it in every single way that he can, he had great chemistry with his quarterback in the entire team as a whole you can see that with a wide receiver go on how he would work with them and even other veteran leaders the find ways to improve every single week and find ways to adjust. He’s a special player that shows his special attributes every single game, being someone that colleges would love to have not only for his talent on the field but his attitude that he cares until the game in and game out, landing Smith at the number 5 spot in our list
