Continue ReadingWith the annual Egg Bowl being slated to start Thursday the 24th at 6:30, all of Mississippi will be tuned in for what should be the biggest game of the season for both Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Growing up, many football players across the state dream of one day playing in this rivalry. For a lucky some, that dream comes true.
This year, over 11 prospects of the in state 2023 class have elected to play at either Ole Miss or Mississippi State for the next 4 years. With the recruiting cycle not being over yet, plenty of other names are expected to join the 11. One day, this will be their game to play in.
Now
Prospects dating back to the 2017 cycle are playing for both teams this week. You may even recognize some of the names from this past years cycle which we covered a tremendous amount. Check out the lists below of both roster’s Mississippi players and their high schools they started their football career at.

The Future
These 11 players plan on joining the existing roster either in December or early February. While some players are still weighing their options, there will be no shortage of Mississippi high school players playing against each other in this major rivalry for years to come.
Mississippi State
ATH Ty Jones Ty Jones 6'2" | 200 lbs | RB Bay Springs | 2023 State MS | Bay Springs
Jones, a stand out do it all player for Bay Springs, is being recruited to the defensive side of the football. He is projected to play linebacker for the Bulldogs at the next level.
DL Tabias Hinton Tabias Hinton 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Hattiesburg | 2023 State MS | Hattiesburg
Mississippi State has been the home of many great defensive linemen and linebackers over the last decade. Hinton plans on being the next one up, totaling well over 30 sacks in his high school career at Hattiesburg. He will provide a great pass rushing skill set to the Bulldogs’ defense.
OL Malik Ellis Malik Ellis 6'4" | 235 lbs | OL Laurel | 2023 State MS | Laurel
A smooth and athletic tackle, Malik Ellis Malik Ellis 6'4" | 235 lbs | OL Laurel | 2023 State MS is a perfect fit for Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense. Ellis will come in at a similar stature and with a similar skillset as former Laurel offensive tackle Charles Cross. While Ellis will pave his own legacy, Laurel products tend to pan out well at State.
DL Joseph Head Joseph Head 6'4" | 205 lbs | DL Holmes County | 2023 State MS | Holmes County Central
Totaling over 29 tackles for loss and 24 sacks at Holmes County, Joseph Head Joseph Head 6'4" | 205 lbs | DL Holmes County | 2023 State MS will look to provide the defensive line group with yet another pass rushing option for the future. Head is an athletic and aggressive player who does a great job at playing the run, something that will be key in the 3-3-5 defense at State.
OL Zay Alexander Zay Alexander 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Tupelo | 2023 State MS | Tupelo
A mammoth tackle out of Tupelo, Zay Alexander Zay Alexander 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Tupelo | 2023 State MS will be another giant offensive lineman that will fit in well as a pass protector. For as big as he is, Alexander does a great job at moving in space and has a natural first punch to him.
DB Jaylen Aborom Jaylen Aborom 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Oak Grove | 2023 State MS | Oak Grove
With Emmanuel Forbes just now breaking the SEC INT record, it is no wonder why a talent like Jaylen Aborom Jaylen Aborom 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Oak Grove | 2023 State MS would like to play for the Bulldogs at the next level. Aborom has great top end speed and shows the ability to match up and lock down some of the top wide outs in the state.
DB Kelley Jones Kelley Jones 6'4" | 200 lbs | DB Clarksdale | 2023 State MS | Clarksdale
A hard hitting safety out of Clarksdale, Kelley Jones Kelley Jones 6'4" | 200 lbs | DB Clarksdale | 2023 State MS provides State with a ton of length and athleticism in the secondary. This is the type of guy that could play all 3 different safety positions at the next level and have success. Kelley is a strong run supporter with impressive ball skills against the pass.
LB Zakari Tillman Zakari Tillman 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Florence | 2023 State MS | Florence
While he played all over the place for Florence, Zakari Tillman Zakari Tillman 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Florence | 2023 State MS is being projected as a linebacker at the next level. Tillman brings a ton of speed to the position, which has proven important in the ever changing SEC.
Ole Miss
ATH Suntarine Perkins Suntarine Perkins 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Raleigh | 2023 State MS | Raleigh
One of the best athletes in the entire states, Suntarine Perkins Suntarine Perkins 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Raleigh | 2023 State MS could be used on either side of the football for the Rebels in the future. Currently, he is being projected as a linebacker and would be an absolute game wrecker for coaches Chris Partridge and Maurice Crum. Perkins has elite speed on the offensive side of the football and can hit like a truck. The Rebels are getting a defensive tone setter in Perkins that should play many years as a starter.

Ole Miss has a track record for producing elite receivers at both the college level and the NFL. Just look at former Oxford wide out DK Metcalf and Starkville wide out AJ Brown. Ayden Williams Ayden Williams 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Ridgeland | 2023 State MS looks to be the next in line. A smooth operator at the line of scrimmage, Williams knows how to get open. Add in his elite ball skills and you have a receiver that Coach Kiffin should be excited about utilizing for years to come.
DL Jamarious Brown Jamarious Brown 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Moss Point | 2023 State MS | Moss Point
A powerful defensive lineman, Brown has the skillset and body type to put on weight and be a big time player for the Rebels defense in time. Naturally strong and powerful, Brown plays with heavy hands and is a pain to scheme around in the run game. This is the type of athlete of the defensive line that Ole Miss has been looking for in this class.
