Continue ReadingWestern Pennsylvania is a region that’s rich with football talent yearly. The transfer portal has altered recruiting for high school prospects in terms of visibility. Due to the abundance of eligible recruits, some high school athletes have become recruiting collateral damage. I’m going to be highlighting some of the underrated or unheralded prospects around western pa in the 2023 & 2024 classes. These recruits spotlighted are either uncommitted or haven’t been offered altogether in a lot of cases. These gems will be introduced in a series of articles to adequately spotlight their abilities.
Tarabrella has D1 offers from the Georgetown Hoyas. St. Francis & Duquesne. He moves well maintaining good speed & quickness overall. Daniel’s talented at flipping his hips & zone-dropping into coverage. Dan shows adequate footwork coming up to tackle in pursuit. Daniel plays sideline to sideline & is great at open-field hitting. Penn Trafford’s senior pedals and anticipates well when breaking on the ball. Tarabrella possesses great ball skills which he displays on tape catching jump balls on offense.
Ziggy is getting FCS consideration & he’s been offered by D2 Wheeling & West Liberty. The 23′ prospect is a big-body WR/DB at 6’3 190 lbs. McIntosh has good speed plus he gets in and out of breaks decently quick. At WR, he has a good catch radius with strong hands on receptions. The senior receiver projects as an outside possession X Wide Receiver. Mac runs good routes & he’s skilled at changing the tempo to get separation. Ziggy isn’t super twitchy, but his speed is sufficient for WR or DB. The 2023 athlete has adequate footwork & great size for contesting 50/50 passes from bigger receivers. Ziggy has the physicality to match his frame, & he will be a prime candidate for Special Teams collegiately.
Reilly has been offered by FCS Dayton to play CB for the Flyers. The senior DB is a scrappy, gritty, competitive, reliable consistent performer for Bethel Park. Reilly plays man coverage well in both press & off-technique. Bethel Park’s veteran leader is patient in press versus jittery, quick-moving wideouts releasing off of the line of scrimmage. Jack utilizes the soft show press technique which is matching the WR steps backing out in press-man coverage. Reilly has a good pad level in his pedal & has the speed to stay over top of receivers in zone coverage. One great attribute Jack possesses is the ability to up his game against big-time opponents.
Highlights
Marcus had been on some D1 radars, & he recently picked up his first FCS offer from the St. Francis Red Flash. The senior prospect already has D2 scholarship offers from Fairmont State & Lock Haven. Fennell possesses good strength & will pancake defenders who attack too high. Fennell is adequate in pass protection & he’s pulverizing down-blocker. Marcus could hypothetically be an interchangeable Offensive Lineman on the next level.
Zay’s lightning in a bottle on the gridiron for the Vikings. Davis has offers from D2 Fairmont State & Wheeling Universities to date. The 2023 athlete is a savvy slot receiver that’s skilled at maneuvering past alley defenders. Sto-Rox’s versatile Swiss Army knife is extremely quick-twitched with lateral & breakaway speed. It always takes more than one defender to corral him when he has the ball. Zay’s elusiveness & burst makes him a dangerous kick returner naturally. Davis plays WR, RB, CB, KR & PR creating big plays regularly.
Deshaun Blackwell
Deshaun Blackwell
Blackwell has fielded offers from D2 Fairmont State & HBCU Bluefield State. The senior DB has good fundamentals and possesses good body control. He transitions well & maintains a good tempo in his backpedal. He’s slim at 150 lbs, but he will bulk up in college once he’s in a the weight program. Deshaun plays bigger than his size, and he isn’t afraid of contact. Blackwell’s height at 6’0 ft will be good for contesting 50/50 passes on taller WRs. Westinghouse’s senior playmaker anticipates well, & he has a swift break on the football.
