It is no secret that the state of Michigan has put themselves back on the map when it comes to producing top caliber QBs. This week some top QBs have some huge games that can really put these young men on the recruiting map. Here are the gun slingers that you should watch out for this Friday.
Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI 2023- Caledonia
Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI is a QB who is starting to grab some serious attention of college scouts, and this season he has put the state of Michigan on notice. The 6′ 180lbs, 3-Star QB has been putting on a clinic this season and has his Fighting Scots sitting at 8-0 going into week 9 for the first time since 2008. I got the chance to watch this dude all off season during Legacy’s 7v7 league and he was must see TV. The man has a cannon, amazing footwork, timing, placement, swagger, and runs like a deer in the power read game!! McKenzie faces off with the D1 power house, Rockford Rams this weekend as they both are sitting 8-0 entering this heavyweight fight. The Rams have owned the Scots in this rivalry but ”In Mason We Trust” seems to be the energy for the fans of Caledonia this season and honestly I feel the same way. 8-0 vs 8-0…. #5 vs #6… don’t get much better than this!
Leeshaun Mumpfield Leeshaun Mumpfield 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Cass Tech | 2023 State MI 2023- Cass Tech
Cass Tech’s mascot is the Technicians… which in this case is fitting for Senior QB Leeshaun Mumpfield Leeshaun Mumpfield 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Cass Tech | 2023 State MI because that what he is with the rock in his hands. Mumpfield led his troops victorious last weekend in the PSL Championship against King… not just winning…. winning a must win game if Cass wanted to keep their playoff dreams alive! Leeshaun has the arm talent that stands toe to toe with any QB in the state!! The zip this dude puts on the ball is a thing of beauty, but what Lee’s best attribute is….. is HEART! This man has the will to win!! You need 8 yards, he’ll get to 13. Can’t teach heart, and #16 has it. Week 9 isn’t a cake walk though, as Cass faces of against a hungry Brother Rice team who’s fighting for a playoff spot as well. Brother Rice pulled off the upset of #1 ranked Warren De La Salle earlier in the season and has the fire power to beat any team at any time. Leeshaun and the Technicians are going to put the high of last weeks victory over King behind them because this week 9 match up is set to be another heavyweight fist fight!!
Colin McKernan Colin McKernan 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Brighton | 2023 State MI 2023- Brighton
I am not shocked one bit that the Bulldogs are 8-0 entering week 9, because having a QB like Colin ”Captain America” McKernan as your team’s leader, victory seems certain. Colin’s pose, leadership, accuracy, quick release and just overall management of the game is bar none in my eyes. Colin has hands down had one of the best off seasons I have seen entering his senior year, and the kid has Ford Field hunger in his eyes. But… Captain America is going to need help from the rest of the Avengers this week as THANOS a.k.a #1 Ranked Belleville High School is standing in front of them. You want to make a run in the KLAA? You want to make a run in D1? It runs through The Tigers, and they have a Back-to-back mission on their minds. 8-0 vs 8-0… #9 vs #1… Time to strap up the boot, pack your lunch because its going to be a hard day at work come Friday.
