Week 10: The Final Two Weeks
This high school football season has certainly moved along quicker than anyone really wanted it to.
With bad weather and storms, things got mighty interesting as many schools failed to play the 10-game regular season schedule that is usually part of an exciting August, September and October.
With the state playoffs still two weeks away, there will be a number of teams who are still fighting for district titles and slotting when the state playoffs begin in two weeks.
While this has been a magical season for many – others fell way short of the goals set in the off-season.
Here is a look at how things stack up with this week’s Top 25 plus:
1. Miami Central (2M – 8-0). THIS WEEK: A regular season-ending game at home against Miami Monsignor Pace on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Rockets won a thrilling GMAC Week game against No. 8 Miami Christopher Columbus, 42-35.
2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 7-0). THIS WEEK: A home district game on Oct. 27 against Boca Raton Saint John Paul II. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Lions won another district game, 63-0, against Hollywood Avant Garde Academy.
3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M – 8-0). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end on the road against Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Raiders rolled against Coconut Creek Monarch, 37-6.
4. Bradenton IMG Academy (Independent – 5-1). THIS WEEK: An Oct. 28 home game against Middletown, Delaware. NEXT GAME: A Nov. 4 home game against Toronto Prep. LAST WEEK: The Ascenders had the week off.
5. Lakeland (4S – (7-0). THIS WEEK: The annual matchup ion the road on Oct. 28 against Lakeland Kathleen. NEXT GAME: A regular season-ending home game against St. Petersburg Lakewood on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: The Dreadnaughts rolled at home against Clearwater Academy International, 44-6.
6. Plantation American Heritage (2M, 8-1). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end at home on Oct. 28 against Hallandale. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Patriots took care of Naples on the road, 35-17.
7. Orlando Edgewater (3M – 9-0). THIS WEEK: Will take the week off. NEXT GAME: After a week off, the regular season comes to an end with the annual showdown at home against Orlando Boone on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: The Eagles won a district home game against Winter Garden Horizon, 54-0.
8. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M, 8-1). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a non-district home game against Hialeah Barbara Goleman on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Explorers fought a gallant fight with No. 1 Miami Central in a GMAC Week contest, 42-35.
9. Tampa Bay Tech (3M – 7-2). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with another road contest at Seffner Armwood on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Titans, who had an early season forfeit, lost for the first time on the field to defending state champion Tampa Jesuit, 24-21.
10. Jacksonville Trinity Christian (1M – 8-0). THIS WEEK: A home district game on Oct. 28 against Jacksonville Providence. NEXT GAME: A Nov. 4 home game with Quincy Munroe. LAST WEEK: The Conquerors had no problem with Jacksonville Christ Church Academy, 47-14.
11. Pensacola Pine Forest (3S – 8-0). THIS WEEK: Another district contest at home on Oct. 28 against Pensacola Booker T. Washington. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The defending state runner up Eagles had no problem with Pensacola Escambia, 36-3.
12. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M, 8-1). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a home district game against Fort Lauderdale Stranahan on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Chiefs stayed on the road with a 31-20 win against Bradenton Manatee.
13. St. John’s Bartram Trail (4S – 8-0). THIS WEEK: An away district game on Oct. 28 against Orange Park Oakleaf. NEXT GAME: A home game on Nov. 4 against Jacksonville Mandarin. LAST WEEK: The Bears won a big district game at home against No. 16 Gainesville Buchholz, 21-6.
14. Venice (4S – 4-2). THIS WEEK: A home game on Oct. 28 against Bradenton IMG White. NEXT GAME: A home game against Clearwater Academy International on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: The Indians won a key district contest on the road against Sarasota Riverview, 31-21.
15. Sanford Seminole (4M – 7-1). THIS WEEK: A Friday, Oct. 28 road district game against Lake Mary. NEXT GAME: A Nov. 1 game on Tuesday night at Apopka. LAST WEEK: The Seminoles scored early and often against Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley, 37-7.
16. Gainesville Buchholz (4S – 6-1). THIS WEEK: A Thursday home district game against Orange Park Fleming Island on Oct. 27. GAME: A Nov. 4 away game against Jacksonville Bolles. LAST WEEK: The Bobcats lost for the first time this year, 21-6, to No. 13 Bartram Trail.
17. Orlando Jones (3M – (6-2). THIS WEEK: An Oct. 28 home district matchup with Winter Garden Horizon. NEXT GAME: A Nov. 4 away game at Orlando Dr. Phillips. LAST WEEK: The Tigers won for the fifth straight time, 21-7, to Apopka Wekiva.
18. Rockledge (3S, 7-1). THIS WEEK: Another big home district game on Oct. 28 against Eau Gallie. NEXT GAME: It’s the annual BBQ Bowl on Nov,. 4 at Cocoa. LAST WEEK: The Raiders were convincing in a 40-7 win over Merritt Island.
19. Niceville (4S, 6-1). THIS WEEK: A Thursday, Oct. 27 home district game against Lynn Haven Mosley. NEXT GAME: A Nov. 4 away game at Navarre. LAST WEEK: The Eagles took the week off.
20. Winter Park (4M, 7-1). THIS WEEK: A Thursday, Oct. 27 home district game against Orlando Timber Creek. NEXT GAME: A home game on Nov. 4 against Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley. LAST WEEK: The Wildcats put together their second straight shutout, 42-0, against Orlando Colonial.
21. West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (9-0, 1M). THIS WEEK: Will have a well-deserved off week. NEXT GAME: After a week off, a trip to Miami Gulliver Prep is schedule for Nov. 3. LAST WEEK: The Crusaders manhandled West Palm Beach Sports Leadership & Management, 62-0, for their third consecutive shutout.
22. Lake Wales (3S, 8-0). THIS WEEK: An away district game against Auburndale on Oct. 28. NEXT GAME: A home game against Bartow on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: The Highlanders rolled to a 69-0 win against Kissimmee Liberty.
23. Bradford County (1S, 8-0). THIS WEEK: A big road district game on Oct. 28 against Palatka. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with a road game against Live Oak Suwannee on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: Posted their seventh shutout of the season – beating Dunnellon, 44-0.
24. Vero Beach (4S, 8-0). THIS WEEK: Like the past two years, it could come down to the end of the game when Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast comes in for an Oct. 28 game. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs In 2 Weeks. LAST WEEK: The Indians once again showcased their impressive program with a road district win against Port St. Lucie Centennial, 41-13.
25. Bushnell South Sumter (2S, 8-0). THIS WEEK: A key district game on Oct. 28 against Dunnellon. NEXT GAME: A home game to end the regular season against Newberry on Nov. 4. LAST WEEK: The Raiders had the week off.
