Madison overall had some great moments this last year. Most of that could be attributed to the young talent they have coming up with some top prospects in my view of Ben Brooks, Carter Downs, and Parker Johnson Parker Johnson 5'11" | 275 lbs | DL Madison | 2024 State SD , all of whom I got to see play in person this year and showed me a lot when I saw them. They will be losing some key players that have made them a tough team to face for the past few years and with the top prospect of Caden Devries Caden Devries 5'10" | 190 lbs | LB Madison | 2023 State and Joe Gors, they will have to adapt to becoming a new team with some new leadership.
The offense was something that genuinely showed bright spots mainly with the aforementioned Brooks and the talent around him, and Eli Barger Eli Barger RB Madison | 2024 SD was also forming into a genuinely threatening back who can have an offense run through him and allow him to be a dual threat. They were genuinely explosive on offense that thrives for the big play and big gains on the offensive side of the ball. They have some first-year talents that are really interesting talents to watch, their wide receiving core has not had one true player who was the star or a number 1 wideout, but a bunch of players who stepped up to fit into a role of great options for their offense. Overall, I think they have a bright future with the class that they are in and I think that we will see them have a bounceback year where they will return to the numbers that they have had in years past.
Defensively they will have many holdovers from last year and they will also be losing some key pieces that will be hard to replace, and that will be tough to find a new fit. Carter Downs is someone who has quickly risen up on my list of prospects to keep an eye on, mainly for what I see him do as a defensive leader in his coverage abilities and his abilities to read the offense well. He has some great potential to develop into a dual-threat linebacker who can run off the edge and also play some lockdown coverage at an elite level. Overall, the Madison defense will give some growing pains but they will become the great unit that they have shown to be. Watch out for them to rise up the rankings next year and make some noise when it matters most.
Madison overall had a rocky year that had some moments that were not the best but when you look deeper into it you see a team that had some young players and some growing pains. But I see them as a team that can break out with the young plays and I for one will be seeing the prospects on this team form into some very college-ready players. That is what I like most about them, they have players that show that they are ready to work and also have the talent to do so, making them high on my list of teams going into next year.
