Caden VerMaas Caden VerMaas 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Millard North | 2025 State NE | 2025 | ATH | Millard North | 6’0″ 190 lbs
Up-and-coming 2025 prospect Caden VerMaas Caden VerMaas 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Millard North | 2025 State NE has had an outstanding breakout year. Fresh off his first D1 Power 5 offer from Nebraska, Caden has been on a tear in recent weeks. He sent in his week 7 tape against Omaha Bryan, in which Caden rushed for 178 rushing yards on 14 carries and four rushing touchdowns. The first clip in Caden’s tape caught my eye right off the bat. He takes a handoff to the left side, bursts through the gap, gives the defender a dead-leg, and then shoots out the gate for the long touchdown. This play alone was a great example of his elite athleticism, vision, and speed. On top of that, he also doesn’t mind taking on some contact when he runs between the tackles, on one play, even moving his own lineman out of the way en route to the endzone. Defensively, VerMaas has been solid at free safety with the ability and frame to step into the box and help against the run. He’s a solid tackler that keeps his legs chopping and follows through on contact. Keep an eye out for Caden, as he should continue to rack up the P5 offers.
Trent Uhlir Trent Uhlir 6'1" | 230 lbs | ATH Battle Creek | 2024 State NE | 2024 | ATH | Battle Creek | 6’1″ 239 lbs
In one of the bigger games in the Battle Creek schedule, ATH Trent Uhlir Trent Uhlir 6'1" | 230 lbs | ATH Battle Creek | 2024 State NE went off against a top-10 Cedar Catholic team. In a grit-fest, Uhlir carried the rock 23 times for 155 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Trent is a big, powerful back that can chip away at defenses with his tough, physical running style. One thing that stands out about Trent is how strong he is, especially when delivering his stiff arm. Uhlir isn’t just power running, as he has the burst to bounce to the outside and accelerate for a nice gain. On defense, he is a smart, physical inside linebacker that plays downhill very well. He can generate a lot of power in his tackles and makes sure to leave a mark when he delivers a hit. Trent is a talented prospect with the frame and athleticism to play either RB or LB at the next level with another prep year to continue to improve.
Joshua Buck Joshua Buck 6'4" | 215 lbs | DL Skutt Catholic | 2023 State NE | 2023 | DL | Skutt Catholic | 6’4 230 lbs
Here’s a hidden gem in the senior DL class. Skutt Catholic’s Josh Buck has had an impressive season so far and has put together a nice tape. Buck has a lengthy but slimmer frame for the DL but plays with lots of explosiveness and quickness. Josh does a lot of things very well, from reading and reacting to the play, to shooting off at the snap, and he has a nice bend to him when rushing off the edge. He also uses his length to his advantage by extending his long arms to create separation and disengage from blocks. Top all that with an insane motor, and you have a solid DL prospect with great times in the 40 (4.87) and pro-agility (4.34). Josh also starts at left tackle on offense, where he displays nice footwork and plays with a tough, physical edge. I also really like his use of leverage and hands that crossover from whether he’s on offense or defense. Huge steal here!
Michael McGovern Michael McGovern 5'8" | 225 lbs | DL Omaha Burke | 2023 State NE | 2023 | OL/DL/K | Omaha Burke | 5’8″ 230 lbs
Burke DL, Michael McGovern Michael McGovern 5'8" | 225 lbs | DL Omaha Burke | 2023 State NE , has proven to be one of the toughest dudes on the field week in and week out. Despite being in the “undersized” category, Michael does a great job making up for that with his pure strength and tireless motor. McGovern uses his natural leverage and strong hands to move blockers out of his way and blow plays up in the backfield. So far this season, Michael has racked up 29 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and a sack while playing multiple spots along the defensive line. He has a strong anchor that he can drop to ensure he doesn’t get pushed back. As I mentioned before, he can be moved along the defensive line and can play nose or defensive end, either eating up blockers in the middle or taking on tackles to give edge rushers a chance to create havoc. A solid prospect that will leave it all on the field!
Keenan Valverde Keenan Valverde 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Pierce | 2024 State NE | 2024 | RB | Pierce | 5’7″ 155 lbs
Pierce RB Keenan Valverde Keenan Valverde 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Pierce | 2024 State NE followed up his monster 233 rushing yard, 4 touchdown game against O’Neill with a 221-yard, 3 touchdown game against Central City. This was Keenan’s third 200-yard game of the season and brought his total to 957 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. One of the things that makes Keenan so special and hard to stop on the field is his balance when he runs. He can absorb contact, brush off arm tackles, and continues to stay on his feet through it all. He can also dish out contact when he lowers his shoulder and uses a stiff arm. Valverde also does a great job keeping his eyes upfield and looking for holes to run through, using his twitch and change of direction to weave in and out of traffic. Keenan also hauled in an interception on defense to add to his production. Very consistent player that deserves some more looks!
