Begeman was simply a beast in his performance last week and he never ceases to amaze me with the talent that this kid has in his bag and what he can do when he is cooking. When he gets the ball in his hands, Begeman is nearly unstoppable when he gets out running in the open field and no one can bring him down. Begeman’s stat line on the night showed how well he was running the ball and seeing him do it impressed me with him tallying a total of 26 rushes on the night with those going for a total of 343 rushing yards overall. Begeman is something of a locomotive when he is on the field, no one can stop him when he is moving, and sure can move fast, he is truly the ideal running back of someone you would want heading up your backfield. Not to mention he had a total of 4 rushing touchdowns on the night, like most nights Begeman was the offensive focus for his team and he lead the way for them to play great. Overall, Begeman clocked another day at the office, which for him is a performance that is simply fantastic.
Lincoln Kienholz Lincoln Kienholz 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Pierre | 2023 State – QB, Pierre TF Riggs
Like most nights, Kienholz was out on the field playing like the ever-talented QB that he is and last he made history that will make be one of the best QBs that South Dakota has ever seen. Kienholz has been elite since he started playing QB at the level he has and he showed that tonight, with him slotting into South Dakota’s all-time career passing yards leader and that alone will land him on this list for that achievement. Doing that through adversity and the challenges that teams have had to face, Kienholz player great throughout all of it. As I outlined in the past few weeks with his stat lines, he is really showing how great he is as a dual-threat QB and this past week was no different. He was elite in passing as usual going 17-26 on the night and having 223 passing yards with that. He spread the ball around and included everyone in the offense which was a big part of their team’s key success. He also rushed 4 times for 118 yards overall, while he did not take off too many times when he had the chance to, he made the most of it. He also had 3 passing touchdowns on the night which rounded out this historic night for him. Kienholz is this week’s South Dakota Stars and Studs Player of the Week not only for his play on the field but the records he broke, congrats to Kienholz and what he has done on the field.
Brayden Sumption Brayden Sumption ATH Leola-Fredrick | 2024 State SD – QB, Leola/Fredrick
Sumption was run-heavy in this game and that is what worked for him well, drawing out defenders with the plays of his offense so he could take off for some big runs overall. Sumption plays in a run-centric along with option-centric offense and this game allowed him to feast on just about any defender that was in his path. While it does not show up on the box in his sense, he set up his running game to have great games by attracting so much attention to him. He did not have many passing yards on the night but he did have a passing TD, where he truly excelled was how well he could run the ball on the ground. With that, he had 5 total rushes on the night which might not be many but he more than made up for it with his total yardage which was 195 rushing yards on the night. He also tacked on 3 rushing touchdowns to round this out as an elite dual-threat QB outing and showed even if you do not run much, you can still be a deadly QB.
Porter Ihnen Porter Ihnen 6'5" | 190 lbs | WR Lennox | 2024 SD – WR, Lennox
Ihnen was unstoppable last week and his stat sheet was stuffed with an all-out attack that he was laying down on the field. Ihnen was not able to be contained in any kind of defense and in the tape, watching him was simply just poetry in motion. He was moving all around the field breaking in and out of coverages and destroying anyone that was in his way. His box score on the night was just as great as the love the eye test showed me with Ihnen racking up 11 receptions overall and having 232 receiving yards. This many yards in one game shows me something that not only was he able to get open and catch passes but he was also able to make the big play overall. He would also have three receiving touchdowns on the night and was the main weapon on his team to create opportunities for them to score on all levels of offense. Ihnen balled out and if you have the chance, see his tape and what he does can when he gets cooking.
