Continue ReadingThe Battle of Alleghany is an annual battle between both Harding and Berry who reside on the same street in the western part of Charlotte – Alleghany Street. This year’s edition was won by the Rams by a 40-20 score, let’s take a look at some of the standouts from both sides.
Keyshawn has been one of the leaders of this Rams team and he had a great performance Thursday Night as he had a punt return for a TD and he ended the game with an interception and a long return. At 6’2 he is a rangy, ball-hawking free safety that is not afraid to come up and hit you in open spaces – something that he did very well in this game as well. Check out our interview with him after the game.

Highlights
Savalas Ray
Savalas Ray
Savalas is a player I have covered since his JV Football days, and he has always played with an edge to his game, and he left it all on the field in this one for Berry. He had a Pick 6, a couple of nice catches on offense, several tackles for loss on defense, and a sack. The thing I loved the most was his energy – even though his team was struggling, he didn’t quit and kept making plays. He probably projects as a strong safety type of player on the next level – he is a hitter and tackles well in open space.
AJ Jenkins
AJ Jenkins
AJ is one of the most talented players in Charlotte that no one knows about. He had an amazing game last Thursday. He scored the first touchdown off of a lateral pass that was incomplete, which he had the awareness to realize was a live ball and returned it for a touchdown. He had an incredible catch against good coverage for a touchdown. He had a Pick 6 for a 2nd defensive touchdown. And if that wasn’t enough, he threw a touchdown off of a double pass. In between all of that, he had a big-time hit from the corner position and played with an edge that set the tone of the night for the Rams. At 5’10 and 200 pounds, AJ could be successful on offense or defense and as a 2024 player, he has another year to refine his game and get even better.

Demetrius Hargroves
Demetrius Hargroves
Hargroves is a player that will be a steal for someone. At 6’5 he is a dual-threat quarterback who operated with good efficiency in leading the Cardinals to a touchdown on their opening drive. Unfortunately, Demetrius got hurt not too long after that and was unable to continue, but he displayed very good athleticism and got the ball out fast in the Berry spread offense. For the short time I saw him live, I thought he played very well.
Diego Parks
Diego Parks
Diego has been the heart and soul of the Harding Rams for the past few years. He is a great athlete but has played quarterback for the vast majority of the past 3 years, taking a lot of punishment as the Rams have tried to rebuild since the graduation of a lot of talent from the 2017 State Championship team. I have seen Diego play Defensive Back at camps at a very high level, winning MVPs at that position. At the next level, I think that is his position and he will be very successful at it. However, in this game, he threw a couple of nice passes and had some tough runs from the QB position as he always does. He is always good for making a play that makes you do a double take and wonder how in the world did he just do what he did – he’s a talented young man and a college will get lucky bringing him into their program.
