This game sees two heavy-weight programs coming in, vying for a big-time win.
Marist Red Hawks – Red Hawks are coming off of a dominant showing in Lombard and, presumably, are eager to keep the train rolling with their excellent play. The Redhawk offense is led by senior quarterback Dermot J. Smyth, a dual-threat quarterback who will scorn a defense with his legs. When the opposing defenses look to plan for Dermot’s scrambling abilities, he has shown that he can pick apart the defense with his arm and accuracy. The Redhawk offense tears defenses down with their run game, and to do that, they have junior running back Marc Coy. Marc is a sturdy running back with great lower strength who runs hard between the tackles and hits the hole hard while keeping his pads low. However, Marc has shown that he has the speed to gap any defender that takes a bad angle at him. On the defensive side of the ball, the Redhawks have a stout defender in cornerback John Nestor John Nestor 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Marist | 2023 State IL , who will be playing at Kinnick stadium for the Iowa Hawkeyes next year. John is versatile in the defensive backfield, as he has played a lot at the safety position this year. John is a nightmare for opposing offenses because he has such a high football IQ, comes down on the ball hard, and has the speed to fly from sideline to sideline. On the defensive line, the Redhawks have senior tackle Jamel Howard Jamel Howard 6'3" | 310 lbs | DL Marist | 2023 State IL . Howard is the big-man up front who causes havoc for offensive lines, especially when they decide to run the ball. This young man will undoubtedly be making a significant impact in this game.
Carmel Catholic Corsairs – The Corsairs are standing tall at 5-2 on the season and are riding high behind stout performances from the dual-head running core of freshman Phillip Goodrich Jr. and junior Kyle Lynch, who coincidently, are also part of the Corsairs linebacking core on the defense. Phillip is a fast back who can stretch the length of the field on a defense in a hurry, one who keeps his feet pounding through contact, and is a nightmare to defenses that have trouble wrapping ball carriers up. On the defensive side of the ball, Phillip’s speed aids him with playing sideline to sideline and being able to collapse on ball carriers all over the field. Kyle is a super quick running back for the Corsairs who can stick his foot in the ground, make a hard cut, and then move north and south before the defenders get their feet beneath themselves. Kyle is then the aggressive downhill backer in the middle for the Corsairs’ defense, who plays every play eager to make a jump on the ball. In addition to these two stout athletes making plays on both sides of the ball, the Corsairs have a phenomenal athlete leading the offense in junior quarterback Johnny Weber. Johnny is a quarterback who embodies the qualities of the best pocket passers there are in the way that he can get the ball downfield in a very accurate manner.
Overall Take – I think this is a close game to the end, with the Redhawks of Marist winning at home. I see this coming down to a one-score game; 27-24 Redhawks.
