As these two, at the time, undefeated teams met during the regular season, it was nearly obvious that they would meet against during the postseason, and here we are. Rockford smacked East Kentwood while Caledonia dominated Grandville for 4 quarters, and now, these teams are on another crash course. Rockford surprisingly dominated the first matchup, but Caledonia gets another shot.
QB | Mac VandenHout Mac VandenHout 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Rockford | 2023 State MI | Rockford
Once Mac gets in the zone, it’s over. Now, I’m not concerned about Mac as much as I see him as Rockford’s most valuable player. Mona Shores, East Kentwood, and others were able to slow Mac down for a little bit, but he’s always gotten into that Superstar X-Factor zone and balled out. Mac is the #1 difference-maker for Rockford, and he undoubtedly has Regional Finals on his mind.
QB | Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI | Caledonia
Mckenzie is an incredible Quarterback who has torn apart every defense he’s faced this season; that is, except for Rockford. Mason has all the tools needed for one heck of a game, but he needs to use his tools well, and the coaching staff needs to draw up an incredible game plan. It’s obvious that both QBs will be focal points, and Mckenzie needs to take care of the ball in order for them to win.
OL | Daniel Neill | Rockford
Neill and the entire Rockford offensive line will pave the way to victory. Neill specifically received an all-conference nod and is an incredibly strong interior offensive lineman. If Neill and the O-Line give Mac time while establishing the run, Rockford’s offense will run smoothly.
DB | Jimmie Floyd Jimmie Floyd 5'8" | 150 lbs | DB Caledonia | 2023 MI | Caledonia
Another all-conference player, Jimmie Floyd Jimmie Floyd 5'8" | 150 lbs | DB Caledonia | 2023 MI , is going to be counted on to have a big game. Rockford has one of the most balanced passing attacks in the state, and Floyd is one of the best DBs in West Michigan. I assume he’ll be tasked with covering McLean and Thompson of Rockford, which will be no easy task. If Floyd has himself a nice game, Caledonia would greatly benefit.
RB/LB | Ryan Ahern | Rockford
Ahern has quietly had an incredible season for Rockford, having received all-conference. He’s one of the most physical players you’ll see, and is not afraid to play fast and hit. On offense, it’s extremely important he gets going to keep the offense balanced and the run game established. On defense, he’ll be tasked with stopping the run with the occasional pass defense. In general, watch out for Ahern as he’ll be back next season.
RB/S | Brock Townsend | Caledonia
Townsend has one of the most important jobs for Caledonia. On offense, he’ll need to make the most of his carries and make sure he plays smart, physically, and effectively. Defensively, he’ll play a major role in slowing down Rockford’s big-play ability. Now, Townsend has three offers from MAC schools, and I’m confident he’ll do everything he can to win this Friday.
