THE HAWKS
For much of the 2000s, when you talked about high school football in the state of Florida, those conversations had to include Seffner Armwood.
One of the most consistent programs this state had produced, the Hawks rolled out plenty of talent along with quality teams.
While they dropped out of the state championship picture for a number of years, they never stopped being good and in the mix for district and regional titles, and as a coaching staff was made a few years back, you could see that something special had been brewing along I-4.
With all the talk about so many programs before the start of the season, several “experts” forgot to include this program – and that has been a mistake.
Other than a loss to open the season against an Alabama power, this team has proven that once again, it belongs in every conversation.
A win a few weeks back against defending state champion Tampa Jesuit opened some eyes to those who felt that the Hawks had disappeared – when in actuality – they had never left.
Despite Monday night’s 20-14 setback to Tampa Wharton, this group of seniors has sparked them with outstanding play and leadership.
Among those Class of 2023 seniors include M.J. Austin II (DE/TE, 6-1, 215), Jaylin Crumby (CB/S, 6-1, 180), Kenny Dantzler (DE/TE), Damenon Hughes (LB, 6-1, 225), Murdolph Jones Murdolph Jones 6'4" | 215 lbs | QB Seffner Armwood | 2023 FL (QB, 6-4, 225), Jaron Powell (DL, 6-0, 263), Dominic Smith III (S/Athlete, 6-2, 195), R.J. Stroud (CB, 5-10, 155) and Calen Sutherland (DB/LB, 5-10, 180).
The junior class also has some gifted prospects in A.J. Battiste (TE/WR, 6-1, 175), Malik Brown (Athlete, 5-9, 155), Lleydon Brush (LB/TE, 6-1, 215), Richard Dennis (OL, 6-3, 307), Josten Diaz (DT, 5-9, 235), Reggie Morgan (OG, 6-3, 330), Alex Scott (DT/OL, 6-1, 260), Kason Stokes (WR, 6-2, 180) and defensive end Cyler Ward (DE, 6-2, 230).
The future also looks very bright with 2025 sophomores Gerard Pringle (RB/WR, 5-10, 175) and RoyMarr Thomas (DL/LB) – and freshman O’Lontae Dean (RB, 6-0, 190).
