They currently sit all alone atop the District 8-6A standings with an overall record of 8-1 (only loss being an early season stumble to Allen) and finish the regular season Friday night versus Bowie. All signs point to a deep playoff run.
This team is full of talent that knows how to win, and in this article, we take a deep dive into the roster and have a look at some unsung playmakers that have been a big part of their success all season.
DB Chris Johnson – 5’8″ 170 / @Chris2iceyy (Class of ’23)
A first team all-district utility player last season, Johnson is a physical defensive back with speed that really excels in run support. He never takes a play off, and plays the game like a true leader. Against the pass, he has fluid hips and can run downfield with anyone. Route recognition is superior, and he’s always around the football. Although undersized, he could become a very nice nickel corner for a smaller program.
Currently has a Division 3 offer from Centenary College.
ATH Mekhi Sanford – 5’8″ 170 / @MekhiSanford_ (Class of ’24)
Speed. Playmaker. Sanford can really fly, and I have a feeling his senior season is going to be very special. He is a bit undersized, but when you can run like he can, you find ways to keep him on the football field. As a return man, he has great vision and is a threat to take it to the house everytime. He has the versatility to line up anywhere on the field – in the backfield, in the slot, or out wide. Waited his turn this season, behind Sergio Snider Sergio Snider 5'10" | 165 lbs | RB Arlington Martin | 2023 State TX and a trio of talented senior wide receivers. Do add him to the list of guys to check out early next season.
Doesn’t have anything up on Hudl yet, but take a look at this kick return –
ATH Konye Frazier – 5’10” 170 / @KFrazier_4 (Class of ’24)
Junior Stats (through 8 games): 530 all-purpose yards and 7 touchdowns
Another Warrior to keep your eye on heading into next season is Frazier. He is a playmaker with good speed that has a knack for making big plays and finding the end zone. He routinely makes defenders miss at the line of scrimmage and has another gear to pull away from safeties downfield. Will be a statewide recruit as a senior.
Currently has no offers.
DB Anthony Crenshaw – 6’0″ 200 / @ATXcrenshaw (Class of ’23)
A team captain and senior leader for the Warriors, Crenshaw is a long, physical player who can line up at safety or corner. He’s smooth in his backpedal and does a great job of reading quarterbacks in the passing game. When in run support, patrols the perimeter and locks it down. Division 1 player who will instantly earn the respect of his teammates at the next level.
Currently has FCS offers from Texas Southern and Alabama A&M.
