THE RAIDERS
When the 2021 football season came to an end with a loss to Cocoa in the state playoffs, veteran head football coach Ty Lawrence and his staff immediately focused on 2022.
That commitment during the spring and summer has certainly added up to something very positive for this South Sumter program.
Heading into this Friday’s game at Zephyrhills, this program is unbeaten and has more than lived up to the promise that each player and coach made after a 7-5 season.
Outscoring the opposition 251-36 in the six games, including three shutouts, there is a positive feeling that the Raiders can do some special things in Class 2S.
Leading the way so far is a senior class that includes prospects such as Elijah Adams (WR/DB, 6-3, 169), Jawarren Corbin (ILB, 6-1, 230), Eian Finkley (QB, 6-2, 204), Jordan Everett (WR/DB, 6-3, 163), Broc Kinley (DT, 5-8, 253), Kaden Payne (RB, 6-0, 180) and Filberto Pedraza (LB/S, 5-11, 190). Also making a contribution so far have been Bradley Simmons (OL, 6-0, 295), Jackson Sovercool (LB, 5-10, 195) and versatile Jayden Young (WR/DB, 5-9, 142).
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
As the senior class is leading the way, the underclassmen have also been making some noise – starting with 2024 where there are players such as Will Ammons (QB, 6-0, 169), Jamare Dorsey (RB, 5-8, 180), Ty Kadur Ty Kadur 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Bushnell South Sumter | 2024 FL (LB, 6-0, 194) and offensive lineman Brady Mallory (6-0, 255).
Keep an eye on Class of 2025 sophomores Malakhi Boone (LB, 6-2, 236), Rashad Johnson (WR/DB, 6-2, 175), George Mullins (DB/WR, 6-2, 160), Ramell Parker (OT, 6-3, 225) and two-way prospect Ja’kyrian Turner (DB/Slot, 5-10, 160) as well.
