While most of its top talent has already received some for of college opportunity to continue playing at the next level, a few players are still looking for that first chance. Today, we highlight a limited number of college prospects who are on the rise and should hear their names called soon!
Tony Boyd | Morton
At 6’1″ 210, Tony Boyd isn’t built like your typical high school wide out. Boyd is a prototypical X receiver at the next level and has the athleticism and route running to make a difference in a WR room next year. At the line of scrimmage, Boyd is very smooth and has a variety of releases versus press man coverage to get himself open. He does a great job at stacking on top of his defender once he has him beat to make a big play downfield. Boyd has natural hands and can catch the ball at its highest point every time it is thrown. With his athleticism and size, Boyd is also tough to bring down after the catch. Really productive wide out prospect who has the tools to be a valuable player at the next level.
Zion Ashby | Itawamba
An explosive and twitched up slot receiver, Zion Ashby is the kind of player that can go 0-100 quickly. Utilizing his speed, Ashby can score from anywhere on the field. When he is put in the slot, he is an absolute nightmare for safeties and linebackers to cover. On short breaking routes, Ashby does a great job at finding space versus zone and sitting in the weak spot of coverage. He has great hands and catches everything away from his body, rarely dropping the football. He may not be the biggest, but Ashby has no hesitations to doing the dirty work in the run/screen game either and blocks very well. Talented slot type receiver who should be hearing from colleges by the end of the year.
Lee Wade | Kosciusko
Kosciusko’s Lee Wade is a guy we have been high on for a while. It is a total surprise that he still has not heard from a university yet regarding a college offer. Wade is a two way player at defensive back and wide receiver, and is used all over the field on the offensive side of the football. Wade has a smooth release at the line of scrimmage and knows how to track the football as evidenced by his play on offense and defense. Wade has great hands and can catch the ball at any angle or point that it is coming from. With the ball in his hands, Wade can bounce off of contact, break tackles, and make defenders miss in the open field. Kosciusko even gives him some snaps at RB because of his playmaking ability! It would be a total shock if by December Wade has not heard from anybody still. Incredibly gifted player who has put together a great season so far.
