Continue ReadingWestern Pennsylvania is a region that’s rich with football talent yearly. The transfer portal has altered recruiting for high school prospects in terms of visibility. Due to the abundance of eligible recruits, some high school athletes have become recruiting collateral damage. I’m going to be highlighting some of the underrated or unheralded prospects around western pa in the 2023 & 2024 classes. These recruits spotlighted are either uncommitted or haven’t been offered altogether in a lot of cases. These gems will be introduced in a series of articles to adequately spotlight their abilities.
Mark Banbury
Mark Banbury
Mark previously had an offer from Fairmont State last time I wrote about him. The senior DL/OL picked up 3 new schollies from FCS Valpo, Marist & D2 Lock Haven. He’s quick off the ball & holds his ground in the box. Banbury is effective in run defense & interior pass rushing. Mark plays with physicality & has strong precise hand violence. Banbury is still improving every game which indicates that the potential for him is high. The 23′ Lineman has been integral for the Panthers in attaining a 7-2 record on the year.
The senior signal caller is getting recruited on the division 1 level primarily. The 6’4 QB does a good job of standing tall in the pocket and stepping into deep throws. EF’s leader has been consistently productive in leading the Warriors to a 9-0 undefeated record in 2022. He has good QB fundamentals and mechanics executing play-action & RPOs. White does a great job of throwing with anticipation on timing routes. Zion’s height and high release make it difficult for D-lineman to deflect his throws. White has thrown for 1521 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.
Highlights
Hartung just received his first scholarship offer from D2 Lock Haven. The senior LB has a good motor & plays instinctively at Linebacker. He moves well & he causes hard collisions. Mt Lebanon’s leader is a good blitzer that makes plays in the backfield. He’s well-coached and reads run-to-pass quickly. Will plays with a low center of gravity, which allows him to pack a punch on his tackles. Hartung missed a large part of the season last year to injury. The 2023 prospect is 6’1, 200 lbs, and an honor roll student that maintains a 3.3 Gpa.
Chase has been talking to a couple of D1 schools thus far. He’s a smothering man-defender with good ball skills. Arrington displays agility & is aggressive in contesting passes in man or zone coverages. He’s competitive & displays good footwork backing out in press coverage. Chase is aggressive & possesses a great motor assisting in run pursuit. The 23′ DB is physical & open field tackles well with adequate form. Arrington is definitely suited to play special teams in college. In week 9 versus Indiana, the senior CB put on a 9.5 tackles, 2 Ints & 1 sack performance.
Highlights
Amire has secured an offer from the D2 PSAC University, Clarion. The senior athlete leads the entire WPIAL with 46 receptions for 1,078 yds, & 12 touchdowns. Spencer has a good release for beating press man coverage. He’s talented at catching the ball over his shoulder & maintaining his balance. Amire is elusive & consistently gains yards after the catch. The productive senior has reliable hands, and he possesses the ability take a short pass the distance at any time.
