The Green Wave were shut out by Sumter, 16-0, last weekend. They went into Friday night’s game against Goose Creek determined to get the offense back on track. Mission accomplished.
Summerville (4-1) scored touchdowns on its first two offensive snaps of the game and cruised to a 56-30 win over the 0-5 Gators. The game featured plenty of offense from both teams, but the Green Wave’s balanced attack proved to be too much to handle. Summerville had nearly 500 total yards in offense.
“It’s preparation, want to,” Summerville head coach Ian Rafferty said of the offense. “We have good schemes and good coaches. We have some dangerous guys. We can take it to the house from anywhere.”
2023 running back Marquez Spells rushed for more than 200 yards and scored on runs of 59, 80 and seven yards. It was Spells who got the train rolling on the first play of the game, scampering up the middle untouched on his 59-yard score.
Spells continues to display great quickness in hitting the hole and great speed in the open field. He also great hands if needed in the passing game.
Junior Trae Green is a great compliment to Spells in the running game. Green is more of a physical runner inside and gets tough yardage. He scored three times in the win over Goose Creek.

McCurry, who recently made a baseball commitment to Newberry College, finished with just under 150 passing yards.

Summerville’s defense got burned a bit in the passing game but Goose Creek 2023 quarterback Drew Moore Drew Moore 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Goose Creek | 2023 State SC is one of the better throwers in the Lower State. Moore, a Mercer commit, was especially effective in the first half, throwing for 170 yards and scoring twice on keepers to give the Gators a fighting chance.
