The senior back might be the piece that puts Santiam Christian in the contenders column. There’s something blue collar in the way he runs–aggressive, behind his pads, not seeking out contact but certainly going to win the hit if it comes. Not the quickest of movements when carrying the ball, is not going to juke someone out of their shoes, but certainly showed why he is a potential all-state guy against Salem Academy this week: 201 yards on 15 carries, three touchdowns.
Paul Hobson – QB – Baker
Three touchdowns on Friday for the Junior Quarterback, one on the ground and two in the air. Distributing the ball fairly efficiently against one of 3A’s best defenses in Vale, Hobson is putting together a body of work that could put him on an all-state list when all is said and done. His 6 foot 3 frame and top-end athleticism make him one of the biggest weapons 4A has to offer, and he showed it against Vale.
Shaw Stork Shaw Stork 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Henley | 2023 State OR – QB – Henley
6 of 8 passing for 133 yards, a touchdown and an interception, six carries for 85 yards and another two touchdowns against Ashland this week. It can be reasonably argued at this point that there is no more valuable player in small school football–quarterback, running back, lineman, etc.–than Stork. The legs alone are all-state worthy, it is well established he has the best arm in the classification, and the versatility in what can be called while he is under center continues to underscore his college potential.
John Lemmons – RB – Marshfield
147 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries for Lemmons against North Bend. Not the only one to touch the ball coming out of the backfield for the Pirates, but consistently moved the chains broke some loose. Wouldn’t initially expect much out of someone with his frame–5 foot 6 150 pounds–but off the first cut he is hard to identify, track to, and bring down.
Waylon Riedel Waylon Riedel 5'11" | 230 lbs | LB Estacada | 2023 State OR – RB – Estacada
Two touchdowns for Riedel against La Grande, who boasts one of the better defenses in 4A. Consistency certainly seems to be a theme for Riedel, who has a touchdown in every game so far this season–five total touchdowns–and has been the Rangers’ main weapon on two point conversions. Estacada having gone through the toughest portion of their regular season schedule already, it is not hard to see Riedel continuing this statistical pace.
