As always, I’m focused more on players with huge games last week, but I do consider season performance as well. So, let’s get to it. Here are my Week 5 rankings risers.
We dropped Fortune just a bit over the summer in favor of some players that dominated at the highest levels of the camp circuit, but maybe we should’ve kept him in our top 10. He’s put up good numbers all year, but he’s been on another level the last two weeks, putting up 854 yards and 13 touchdowns in wins over Broughton and Sanderson.
Highlights
Brown has been dynamic all season, so it’s definitely time to feature him. This week (Week 5) was his fourth 200-yard, multi-touchdown game this season (and the other he had 174 yards). He’s already reached 200 yards on the season and shows no signs of slowing down. Expect him to keep putting up big numbers for Lee County
Boaz is one of my favorite small-school quarterbacks in the state. By his standards, he got off to a slower start this season, but he’s kicked it into high gear in the last two weeks. In wins over South Stokes and North Wilkes, he’s completed 78 percent of his passes for 600 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Jackson-Bass has taken his game to a completely different level this season, putting up four multi-sack games through five weeks. This past week, he made 12 tackles to go with his two sacks. His 11 sacks are second in the state behind only our No. 1 2023 defensive lineman.

Brimmer’s teammate, 2023 No. 2 overall KJ Sampson KJ Sampson 6’4″ | 285 lbs | DL New Bern | 2023 State NC , gets a lot of the headlines, but Brimmer was the star this past week, putting up an incredible 5-sack performance against Havelock. The Havelock offense never got into rhythm, largely because Brimmer lived in the backfield. I’m impressed and will be interested to see if he keeps the momentum going over the next few weeks.
