- 11 carries, 232 yards rushing, & 3 TDs
Mr.Dowdell is undoubtedly one of the best running backs in the state of Mississippi, and he shows us precisely why he’s looked at in that light week in and week out. In Week 4, Dante and the defending state champion Maroon Tide of Picayune faced off against D’Iberville. They were the only team to defeat Picayune last year on their state title run, but Picayune took that blemish to last year’s perfect season personal. This year the Maroon Tide cruised to a 35-7 win over D’Iberville, in large part to the performance put on display by Dante Dowdell Dante Dowdell 6'2" | 215 lbs | RB Picayune Memorial | 2023 State MS . He had 232 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground this past week on only 11 carries. It is hard to contain Dowdell for sure, but I’d take Picayune over any team in the state in a game where Dante averages over 20 yards a carry! Dante Dowdell Dante Dowdell 6'2" | 215 lbs | RB Picayune Memorial | 2023 State MS is poised for another big game against Pearl River Central this week. Best believe, we will all be watching to see what type of numbers he puts up this week!
Austin Acton Austin Acton 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Lamar | 2023 State MS | Lamar (Meridian) | 2023 RB
- 141 yards rushing, 4 TDs
Austin Acton Austin Acton 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Lamar | 2023 State MS is an old school running back that runs behind his pads and doesn’t mind earning tough yardage by way of 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust. In Week 5 of his season, put on for Lamar and was a big contributor in their contest. The 6’0 190 RB is a good looking kid that also has a track background. On tape Acton shows good balance, better vision, and great leg drive on the bulk of his carries. The 2023 student-athlete had a monster of a game last week for Lamar as they faced off against Presbyterian Christian. Acton’s 141 yards on the ground, 4 TD’s, and couple of receptions helped propel Lamar to their first win of this season. Austin was carrying his team and members of the opposing team in his performance last week, literally. The senior is looking to string more of these type of efforts together in order to right the ship over at Lamar. Next week Lamar faces 3-1 Hartfield Academy, one of the best MAIS programs in the state. This will be the perfect game against a quality opponent for Acton to get some good things on tape!
Gavin Griffin Gavin Griffin 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Velma Jackson | 2024 State MS | Velma Jackson | 2024 RB
- 18 carries, 271 yards, & 5 TDs
The only thing that Gavin Griffin Gavin Griffin 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Velma Jackson | 2024 State MS didn’t do last week for the Velma Jackson Falcons was run out water and keep the chains. Because he kept score, was on crowd control, and also worked security, but no seriously. In this kid’s first game back he put up numbers and a performance of kid that was determined and possessed. The Junior RB made light work of that Yazoo City defense, and put on an absolute clinic. He was looking refreshed and rejuvenated as a runner. Griffin ran through people last week, ran around them, and also made defenders miss. He was able to put up 270+yards on 18 carries to help Velma Jackson cruise to a 45-0 win. It was a win that just so happened to be the Falcon’s first of the year. With Griffin back in action and preforming the way he is, Velma Jackson immediately becomes a formidable opponent in the weeks to come. They will host Leake County this Friday in a non-district contest, a game that I’m sure will be similar to this past week for Gavin Griffin Gavin Griffin 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Velma Jackson | 2024 State MS and Velma Jackson.
Beau Holley | Neshoba Central | 2023 LB
- 18 tackles, 2 sacks, & 1 Forced Fumble
Beau Holley was on a tear last week as the Rockets of Neshoba Central faced the red hot Holmes County Central Jaguars. Holley’s performance helped Neshoba Central get a much needed District win, and it also gave Holmes County Central their first loss on the season. Holley flied around last week and filled up the stat sheet doing what he does best, which is hunt ball carriers. His 18 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 FF make up a stat-line that is impressive and could help any defense keep a high-powered offense at bay. Beau Holley is one of the better LB’s in that district and he is starting to make his presence felt early on in district play this season. Next week the Rockets face off against the Provine Rams, in what should be another closely contested match up. It will surely be tough for Beau to top last week’s performance, but I’m sure he will play with that same fire and desire that we are used to seeing in yet another district game in front of their home crowd.
Trip Maxwell Trip Maxwell 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Hartfield Academy | 2023 State MS | Hartfield Academy | 2025 QB
- 19-27 passing (70% completion rate), 251 yds passing, 4 TDs
Trip Maxwell Trip Maxwell 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Hartfield Academy | 2023 State MS put together one of his most impressive performances of the season together last week and played a complete game! The Senior out of Hartfield Academy was seeing the field really well versus Bayou Academy as he threw for 250+ yards and 4 touchdowns. He also put up these numbers while completing 70 percent of his passes and with 0 interceptions. Trip is starting to find his footing in that offense of Hartfield’s and figure out what match ups he favors with different receivers. Maxwell showed the complete bag with this performance, even making some off balance throws look easy. On film Trip was able to display a few characteristics that you love in Quarterbacks: Quick Processor, Good Decision Making ability, Accuracy with Ball Placement, and Arm Strength. These are the type of games Maxwell will continue to have for Hartfield as we creep up on District play and more meaningful games begin to be played,
