We are going to take a look back at what we learned from the action on Friday night and look at a few prospects and teams that had big nights on Friday. The prime-time players article will come out tomorrow for last week’s stars. For now, though, let’s take a look at what we learned this weekend.
Conway Wampus Cats:
The Wampus Cats of Conway were a team heading into the 2022 season that I thought had the potential to make a deep playoff run. With the 44-35 victory over the Bentonville Tigers on Friday, the Wampus Cats showed the state that they are a team to take seriously. Conway will travel to Springdale this week to take on a Bulldogs team looking to right the ship. Here are a couple of Wampus Cats that had big nights on Friday this week.
Jamarion Carr Jamarion Carr 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Conway | 2023 State AR -Running Back-2023
Over the past few years, Jamarion Carr Jamarion Carr 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Conway | 2023 State AR has been one of the most consistent running backs in the state of Arkansas. On Friday night, Carr rushed 21 times for 199 yards and three touchdowns against the Tigers. Carr looks to be in mid-season form early in the season and the Wampus Cats have the run-pass mix to make a playoff run. Conway is just getting started this season and this has the potential to be a strong season.
Donovyn Omolo Donovyn Omolo 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Conway | 2024 State AR -Quarterback-2024
Against a tough Bentonville team on Friday night Donovyn Omolo Donovyn Omolo 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Conway | 2024 State AR looked sharp. He connected on several deep and intermediate throws that helped give the Wampus Cats a nine-point victory over the Bentonville Tigers. Omolo had an impressive season in 2021 and appears to be clicking on all cylinders this season.
Malvern Leopards:
The Malvern Leopards are off to an impressive start to the 2022 football season. On Friday night, the Leopards lit up the scoreboard with a 59-20 victory over Glen Rose. Malvern runs the ball extremely well which allowed for the passing game to open up to a strong Leopard offense. We are going to take a look at a few Leopards that shined bright on Friday night this week.
Jalen Dupree Jalen Dupree 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Malvern | 2024 State AR -Running Back-2024
Dupree is off to an extremely hot start for the 2022 season. He is running the ball with decisiveness and is exploding through the rushing lanes. Against Glen Rose, Dupree rushed 13 times for 240 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was not finished, Dupree caught the ball four times for 117 yards and one touchdown. Look out for Dupree this season, he is opening eyes with his terrific play.
Cedric Simmons Cedric Simmons 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Malvern | 2023 State AR -Quarterback-2023
The Malvern quarterback is a prospect that can hurt opposing defenses throwing or running the football. Simmons was extremely effective throwing the ball on Friday night. He went 8 of 12 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, he did plenty of damage on the ground as well. Simmons carried ball 10 times for 70 yards and three touchdowns.
Arric Clegg Jr.-Defensive Back-2023
Clegg Jr. was all over the field on Friday night for the Leopards. He played the run and the pass well on Friday night. Clegg Jr. racked up 13 tackles and two pass break ups on Friday night against Glen Rose. He has looked impressive and mid-season form and is going to be a defensive back to watch out for this season.
