We have the 2-1 Brennan Bears hosting the undefeated 2-0 TAFT Red Raiders Thursday night in San Antonio, Texas at Dubb Farris Stadium. The Brennan Bears defeated TAFT last season 42-28, went 13-1 on the year, and lost in the 4th round of the playoffs last year to powerhouse Lake Travis 42-17! TAFT went on to have a 9-3 record last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Vera High School 27-24. Their are some key players in this matchup that you must keep your eye on in this game! These young men have been balling out, and have shown they have the skillset, speed, power, and even untapped potential that make them dangerous in this upcoming game. Ashton DuBose Ashton DuBose 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB William J. Brennan | 2023 State TX : 6’2 180Ibs/QB/ Brennan High School
Analysis: Ashton DuBose Ashton DuBose 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB William J. Brennan | 2023 State TX is definitely a player that you need to keep an eye on for the game. Dubose has great pocket presence, and shows great composure and poise while delivering dimes. This young man can also hurt you on the ground as well, accelerating quickly in between open gaps. Next, he has shown that he has very good vision of the field and he can make effective reads at any given moment. Also, Dubose has good accuracy and can throw a great deep ball when he needs to as well. Keep your eye on him for this game!
Tyler Turner: 6’0 180Ibs/SS/ Brennan High School
Analysis: Tyler Turner is going to be a huge factor in this game on defense. Turner has really good strength, plays with a high motor, and does an excellent job at covering the field making tackles. He has a very solid build as well. Turner is superb in pass zone coverage because he has great disciplined, and stays on wide receivers hips, stays on top of all routes, while making sure he reads the quarterback at the same time! Next, he possesses really good jump ball skills, which makes him dangerous for any offense throwing his way! Look for him to have a big game this week!
Aaron Dubose: 6’4 175Ibs/WR/ Brennan High School
Analysis: Aaron Dubose is a prime target at the wide receiver position. Dubose has really great hands as well, and is a really dangerous route runner! He possesses great height and stature, while having long arms which gives him an advantage over shorter corners and safeties. When it comes to the run game, Dubose plays with great physicality at the line, and tries his best to make sure the ball carrier is able to gain extra yards. Look for him going forward!
TJ Andrews: 6’2 185Ibs/RB/ TAFT High School
Analysis: TJ Andrews is a cowbell running back, or work horse for the TAFT Raider’s running game. Andrews is has the build of a solid collegiate running back as well. He runs with power, and welcomes contact at the point of attack. When it comes to finding the hole, Andrews shows that he has good ball carry vision, and waits for his blocks to set up properly, so he can gain a first down or a touchdown. You can also use TJ Andrews in the passing game, giving you an extra receiver to throw to, in order to spread the field, and keep the defense on their toes. Look for him to have an impact on Thursday!
Tremaine Smith Tremaine Smith 6'1" | 225 lbs | DL William H Taft | 2023 TX : 6’2 225Ibs/DE/ TAFT High School
Analysis: Tremaine Smith Tremaine Smith 6'1" | 225 lbs | DL William H Taft | 2023 TX is a sleeper player on this list that you must keep an eye on on Thursday. He has decent speed clocking a 4.9 40 yard dash. That is not bad for a defensive end his size. On the gridiron, Smith is tremendous at getting off blocks, and has really good closing speed! This young prospect can force fumbles, and cause a hassle in the backfield if he goes unblocked! Next, he plays with a high level of energy and physicality, and makes sure to lay the wood on ball carriers. Smith is also a very disciplined defensive end, which makes it hard to fool him. Look for him to feast on Thursday night!
Elijah Cotter: 6’0 160Ibs/CB/ TAFT High School
Analysis: Elijah Cotter is a guy that can make a difference on defense in this game. Cotter has a very smooth back peddle, and does a superb job at keeping his eye on the receiver’s hip, and makes sure to locate the ball at the right time! Cotter is not afraid to lay a hat on somebody either. He also has good make up speed, and flexible hips, which is vital at the corner position. When it comes to coverage, he plays zone and man coverage at a high level, and does a great job at being in position to make a play on the ball! On Thursday night, I will not be surprised to see him have a big night! Look for him in the future.
