The Irish have their best team in years but they are dealing with a completely different dynamic when it comes to West Linn. I could see Sheldon hanging around and making it interesting, although I think the big game setting could heavily favor the Lions.
Nation’s #1 St John Bosco, CA (2-0) @ #2 Central Catholic (1-0) STJB -34.5
Not even really sure what to say here, except for the fact that Bosco is just on a different level from almost everyone. They are currently beating other nationally ranked teams by an average of 35 points which will most likely continue.
#3 Jesuit (1-0) @ #5 Lakeridge (1-0) JES -2
You can’t go wrong attending this contest. The Pacers might have their best team since the state championship years of the late 80’s and early 90’s. It’s not a secret Jesuit is going to run the ball with two of the best backs and the top O line in the state. This is potentially a special Lakeridge D. We will find out shortly.
#4 Tualatin (1-0) @ McNary (0-1) TUAL -41.5
Summit and their 18 returning starters gave Tualatin all they could handle. The next few weeks should allow Tualatin to work on some things and get rested up before moving on to the TRL gauntlet.
#7 Tigard (1-0) @ Sandy (0-1) TIG -19
Sandy played well Week 1 coming up just short 14-9, against what has been a good Sunset program the last few years. The Tigers have momentum and still a lot to prove after last season. Look for the Pio’s to keep it close for a while.
#8 Westview (1-0) @ 5A Wilsonville (1-0) Westview -13
I think Westview is going to show up every week with something to prove. Wilsonville is one of the better 5A teams in the state, but will struggle mightily up front against a group who added another 1st team all league kid to their already solid line, in Elijah Markowitz Elijah Markowitz 6'2" | 300 lbs | DL Westview | 2023 State OR 6-1 300.
#9 Sherwood (1-0) @ #10 Clackamas (0-1) SHER -1
Both teams played well Week 1. The Cavs will be eager to get a W, playing at home in one of the best football environments in Oregon. The Bowmen are talented and experienced as it may come down to two Junior QB’s in Kasen Covert Kasen Covert 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Sherwood | 2024 State OR and Mateo Maehara. Both had nice season openers.
#11 Lake Oswego (1-0) @ #13 West Salem (0-1) LO -1.5
You won’t find two better head coaches on the same field as Steve Coury and Shawn Stanley are as good as they come. Both teams are relatively young and not viable state title contenders this season, so we should find out how much coaching truly makes a difference.
#12 Mountainside (1-0) @ Barlow (0-1) MSIDE -10.5
Barlow did a good job against Lake O Week 1 with the D stepping up on multiple occasions. That said as I could see the Mavericks being a legit top 10 team, and consistent contender in the years ahead. Look for Mountainside to cover.
Sunset (1-0) @ #15 South Salem (1-0) SUNS -2
While South is ranked and Sunset is not, this comes down to matchups and how teams have fared out of the Valley. The Apollos are down this year and the Saxons look good, but this is a go and prove it game. It will be close regardless.
#15 Oregon City (1-0) @ 5A Canby (1-0) PICK EM
OC did not play well, barely beating Jeff 18-15. This will be a telling contest, against a well coached Canby team, who is also young. The Cougars went on the road and got the victory against Mt View of Bend 21-18 in Week 1. If Oregon City is going to compete in the TRL they must win this game.
