Continue ReadingThere are so many wideouts that I had wanted to put on this list but with limiting myself. to only five, there will be some that I will not be able to put on here but with it being midway through the season, this list will change and is based on who is doing great now. So with that in mind, let’s jump right into this list.
5. Tyan Buus Tyan Buus 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Pierre TF Riggs | 2024 State SD – Strugis Brown High School
Buus comes into the five spot on the list and with the year he has, it does pain me not to put him higher on the list but he rounds out here at the end. What Buus does is be what is the definition of consistency and being a great player game in and out with what he does on the field. Buus is speedy and likes to get most of his yards after the catch which he does to get a score for his team and sets them up for some truly great chances to get points on the board. In the numbers aspect, he has a total of 411 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns, being somewhat of a safety blanket for his team to look to when he needs to. He finds the chance to get open and does it when his team needs him to do it most, he’s clutch, he has fun and is just a great football player at heart.
4. Landon Puffer Landon Puffer 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Hitchcock-Tulare | 2023 State – Hitchcock-Tulare High School
After watching some tape of Puffer I have made the mistake of not seeing his game earlier and I wish I did, and after you see what he does, you will too. Puffer plays with such tenacity and effort that is just fun to see someone work as hard as he does on the field, you can see that he is someone that studies film and learns from it. He has sure learned from it, with his numbers showing so by having a total of 472 receiving yards and having a staggering 10 receiving touchdowns to start the year already. Puffer is a fantastic red zone threat who can beat his man to get open quick for a fast thrown his way. No matter what route you want to him to run or what role you want him in, Puffer will fill and play it at a high level, putting him at the number 4 spot and someone I will be watching tape for the rest of the year.
3. Tanner Stein Tanner Stein 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Elkton-Lake Benton | 2025 State SD – Elkton High School
Stein was someone who I was high on before the year started and is great to see him ball out like he is doing so far. Stein is a fantastic slot receiver who does so much for his team that does not show up on the stat sheet. Stein runs well and can block quite well for being a wideout too and just being such a threat that the defense will hover towards him. When Stein gets into the open field good luck trying to tackle him with how elusive he is to defenders. His stats this year are showing what he is doing quite well with him totaling 566 receiving yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. Stein is such a threat on the field and it is cool to see how defensive backs will make him his main focus but Stein does not let it go to his head, putting him in at my 3 spot for the midseason rankings.
2. Jovi Wolf Jovi Wolf WR Chester Area | 2024 State SD – Chester High School
If you have not had the chance to see Wolf play wideout this year, make sure you do because what he is doing is simply phenomenal. Wolf being just a junior and being as smart as he is something that you love to see out of a young player. Wolf is having what would be a called true breakout year and he is doing that by being one of the key pieces for the offense on his team. His team is usually run-heavy and most of the snaps go that way but that is no issue to him with him racking up 608 receiving yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. What I like most about him is how he does not demand to have the ball in his hand and sees that he has a role on the team and that there is one to fill, and with Wolf, you will never hear a word about it. I love to see players go off and see them just put up some great numbers where you would not expect to see it, with Wolf fitting the spot in my view.
1. Jack Merkwan Jack Merkwan 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Pierre | 2023 State – Pierre TF Riggs High School
What Merkwan has been doing transcends the stat sheet and that is why he lands in at my number one spot on the midseason ranking list. Merkwan is just so physically domaint and overpowering to defensive backs on the field that is just crazy to see him do what he does, with the team at times triple teaming to get the ball out of his hands. This in turn has caused a dip in some receptions but that has had no impact on his stats that he has, with him having 505 yards and touchdowns. What he does this on is very few receptions a game but he racks up huge gains each time he gets the ball in his hands. Merkwan has been someone that if you do not know about, please go watch some film of him and see what he does on the field, you will not regret it. With all of this in mind, Merkwan safely lands in at the number 1 spot on the mid-season ranking list.
