Moser’s Dodgers battled Ames down to the wire Friday night in Week 2, coming up just short on their home turf, 36-32.
A week after dropping a close contest to Mason City, Fort Dodge was left needing to show something. They definitely did on both sides of the ball in this classic.
Connor Carver Connor Carver 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2023 IA – Fort Dodge – QB
While committed to Bemidji State, Connor Carver Connor Carver 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2023 IA might be hearing from some coaches moving forward. The senior showed why he is one of the top two-way threats in Class 4A, racking up over 300 yards of total offense was again.
Carver has a strong arm, which he showed off several times, including on a near-TD strike to complete the comeback effort when he threw back across his body. But Carver is more than just a sound passer, using his improved size and strength to carry the ball 11 times for over 140 yards.
And they were hard-earned yards by Carver. Running power plays out of the backfield, Carver took on each and every Ames defender who stood before him. He completed 20 of 34 passes for 233 yards, including three touchdowns.
Carver’s stock is only going to continue to rise as he shows what he can do on the field each Friday night. His ability to scan the field, manage the offense and understanding of when to take off is at a very, very high level.
Javion Jondle Javion Jondle 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Fort Dodge | 2023 State IA – Fort Dodge – WR/S
Another Dodger who has committed to Iowa Central, Javion Jondle Javion Jondle 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Fort Dodge | 2023 State IA displayed the incredible athleticism that has placed him on several all-state lists already. Jondle caught 11 passes for over 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also taking on the role of defender against the Ames passing attack.
Jondle is a freak of an athlete, going up on a whim to snag balls out of the air. He has excellent hand-eye coordination and is definitely one of the fastest players on the field. His route running allows him to get that extra separation against defensive backs.
Orion Larson-Trott – Fort Dodge – RB/LB
Far from the biggest player on the field, Fort Dodge’s Orion Larson-Trott might be the strongest. Larson-Trott racked up 92 yards on 18 carries, earning each and every single yard he gained.
Larson-Trott displayed a nice first burst through the line, not waiting for a hole to open many times and just making one himself. He has a good burst, great strength to avoid going down and is also a very solid defender on that side of the ball.
The more Larson-Trott becomes a threat out of the backfield, the more potent this Fort Dodge offense will become.
