Columbia vs Petal
Columbia is 2-0 coming into this week. The reigning 4A champs want to let the state know they aren’t anything to mess around with. Most people expected them to have a downfall with the loss of Jaheim Otis. They are showing that isn’t true at all. Their fans don’t expect to fall short of a championship this season.
This week Columbia is facing off against Petal. This should be a very good game. It is going to be interesting to see what Columbia’s defense has in store for Deljay Bailey Deljay Bailey 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Petal | 2023 State MS . Petal has some receivers who know how to get open. This is going to be a very good matchup down in south MS.
Warren Central vs Germantown
These two teams have came out this season banging. Germantown shocked Vicksburg the first game of the season. Vicksburg has an explosive team and it was impressive to see Germantown’s defense hold them to six points. This game should be a good one.
Warren Central is going to be looking to get some rushing yards behind that offensive line. If they get the run established early they will have a great chance to pull this game out. Germantown has a good defense and they will be doing all they can to prevent that.
Warren Central likes to play good defense too. They have some guys who fly to the football. They have some defensive lineman who knows how to get a rush on the QB. This defense likes to make hits. Look for these guys to be loose Friday night.
Olive Branch vs Starkville
Another set of teams that are both undefeated. A 1-6A team vs 2-6A team. We know that these two teams could possibly be facing each other again when they playoffs come. They are going to be going at it trying to make an early statement. I’m quite sure the other teams in the division of each opponent will be watching this one closely.
Olive Branch has a new weapon on offense at QB. He has kicked this season off with a bang. Raheem Vance is going to be a name you hear talked about a lot. Starkville is a team that has a complete defense. This will be a big test to see what their offense can do against the Yellow Jacket defense.
Starkville has a complete offense as well. They have guys who can catch at receiver and they have guys who can tote the rock. They have one of the best QBs in the whole state that throws the ball around with ease. Their defense is going to be very stingy as Eric Thomas gets set to lead his troops against the Conquistador offense.
Gulfport vs Picayune
Gulfport vs Picayune is going to be a game the folks on the coast are going to be ready to see. Expect a lot of big plays on the ground from both teams. This is going to be a big rushing game. Look for a lot of cruising and bruising.
Even though Gulfport likes to run they have a QB who can get the job done. They also have some receivers who enjoy making plays. If they come out and try to find a way to finesse this game with skill they have a chance to win. I don’t think they should get in an aggression battle with Picayune.
We all know what Picayune is going to do. Dante Dowdell Dante Dowdell 6'2" | 215 lbs | RB Picayune Memorial | 2023 State MS and Chris Davis Chris Davis 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Picayune | 2024 State MS will be getting some carries. Both guys are very explosive and coming off of a big week on the ground. Gulfport is going to have to simply bow up if they want to stop their rushing attack. Not many have been successful at doing that.
