Over the past 3 weeks, the potential and flash has shown multiple times for Hilton. If you’re from the Indy area or watched any Colts games since 2012, that last name looks familiar. Well, the future is now. Eugene, the son of T.Y. can absolutely ball and he’s been lighting it up. He’s a really twitchy athlete who has more potential than he may even realize. He’s got the athleticism and ability to make guys miss, but more importantly, he’s great at contested catches and can go up and over just about anyone. His concentration and ability to focus and bring down the ball are elite for his age. Good things happen when he’s around the ball. In the screen game or taking a shot deep, Hilton is your man. The future is incredibly bright for Hilton and he’s just starting to figure it out on the field. When he comes out, there’s a chance he’s a household name.
Porter Rode Porter Rode 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Evansville Reitz Memorial | 2024 State IN – Reitz Memorial – RB – 5’9″ 195lbs – 2024
Rode was forced to start the season on the sideline, but the stud back for Reitz Memorial didn’t have to wait long to make his impact once back on the field. He’s physical, has decent vision, and can finish through contact and last Friday was a great example of that. He put up 184 rushing yards. 130 of those yards were after contact. He wasn’t getting the big holes to run through Friday. He had to earn every inch and that he did. He’s good in open space and has fantastic speed when he hits the open field. He’ll put his foot in the ground and get vertical immediately when he can. He understands how to run the rock effectively. He’s back and good things are going to be happening for that offense whenever Rode touches the ball.
Trey Gibson Trey Gibson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hobart | 2023 State IN – Hobart – RB – 6’0″ 200lbs – 2023
Gibson continues to frustrate defenses every time he steps on the field. He’s a tough runner who can be really hard to bring down and has fairly good vision. He’s able to find holes, make cutback lanes, and hit the gas. His top-end speed catches defenses off guard until he’s out the backdoor. He’ll cut back through the entire defense if he needs to as well. When he’s in the second level, he’s one of the most dangerous backs in the state. He’s also been playing some Slot WR this season as well. He’s already got a receiving TD from the slot and you can expect that to be added to by season’s end. Gibson is off to a great start to the season and that summer work is paying off.
Hannah Magruder – Jeffersonville – K – 2024
Magruder is a 2 sport athlete for Jeffersonville who has already made her mark on the football field. A soccer star for Jeffersonville, she’s come over to help the football team. From my understanding, this past week, she played in the game with a sprained ankle on her kicking foot. Incredibly tough the way it is, Magruder then came out and didn’t let her team down. She made her kicks and had plenty to give. More importantly, she was able to get down a perfect onside kick where Jeffersonville was able to recover. Kicking in football is arguably the toughest job in sports the way it is. Doing it with injuries, and still coming out on top, is more than enough to get the nod for an elite performance.
Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN – Mooresville – QB – 6’2″ 225lbs – 2023
Patterson is one of the most dynamic QBs in the state and is off to his typical start. Lighting it up, killing defenses, and scoring points. This past Friday was no different. Patterson is a great athlete who can take off and run or extend any play. Friday, he had a run where the entire defense tried bringing him down but he powered through and drug half of them with him. He ended up being brought down in the RedZone, but only after a huge gain and half the defense failing. Patterson is able to throw with anticipation and give only his guys a chance. When he’s at the helm, his team always has a chance and it’s no different to start the season.
Deshaun Lowe Deshaun Lowe 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR West Vigo | 2023 State IN – South Vigo – WR – 5’8″ 165lbs
Lowe is one of the shiftiest and more dynamic Slot WRs in the state. When he touches the ball, good things don’t happen. Great things happen. He’s an elite athlete with a special ability to make anyone miss, catch contested balls, and outjump anyone he comes across. Lowe is best when he gets the ball on the move and can start making things happen. He’s like a freestyle artist and will change lanes, weave through traffic, and make defenders look silly. He’s got an elite ability to bring down some of the most impressive catches you’ll see. Through traffic falling to the ground and he’ll make the grab. He’s shorter but so shifty and good in space it shouldn’t matter. Wherever he ends up, Lowe is going to bring a dynamic layer to that offense and hopefully, he gets to showcase his full potential.
