Let’s take a look at some of our top Lowcountry teams and pinpoint some players who could be that key to a successful season.
Samari Bonds Samari Bonds 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Beaufort | 2025 State SC , QB, Beaufort, 2025
With Tyler Haley lost to graduation, Bryce Lybrand’s squad will turn to Samari Bonds Samari Bonds 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Beaufort | 2025 State SC to lead the Eagle offense. Bonds impressed in his limited time on the field last year and into the summer, improving his decision-making and accuracy under center. He’s got excellent legs and can take off for extra yards at any moment, making him difficult to defend with Beaufort’s strong group of receivers downfield. Bonds will be counted on as a game manager this season who will look to get the ball in the hands of veteran wideouts Kacy Fields Kacy Fields 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Beaufort | 2023 State SC and McLeod Reichel.
Tucker Tevepaugh, P/K, 5-10 165, Hilton Head Christian, 2024
There’s no denying the importance of what a talented punter or kicker can do for a high school team, and Hilton Head Christian Academy has landed a special one. The back-to-back SCISA state champions will have the services of Tucker Tevepaugh, one of the best at his position in the country. Formerly at John Curtis Christian in Louisiana and St. Thomas More in Connecticut, Tevepaugh is ranked nationally as the third-best punter of his class on Kohl’s Kicking. A pinpoint performer with elite leg speed, Tevepaugh will be an incredible weapon for the Eagles to enjoy this season. He has also shown some prowess at quarterback and is expected to compete for the job this fall.
Thomas Raisch, LB, 5-10 150, May River, 2023
With several key linebackers lost to graduation, the Sharks will need to rely on the strong play of senior Thomas Raisch. The veteran is quick and agile with the hustle to make any play on the field, leading his team in tackles in 2021. A star on the lacrosse field alongside the gridiron, Raisch’s superb athleticism and drive have made him a standout at middle linebacker. Raisch had a strong summer and will be an important leader of a May River defense with some new faces beside him this fall.
Dietrich Shuford Dietrich Shuford 5'9" | 155 lbs | QB Beaufort Academy | 2025 SC , QB, 5-9 140, Thomas Heyward, 2025
After suffering a season-ending injury in 2021, Dietrich Shuford Dietrich Shuford 5'9" | 155 lbs | QB Beaufort Academy | 2025 SC is ready to lead his Thomas Heyward Rebels on the quest for a fifth consecutive SCISA 1A crown. Shuford is a young and poised quarterback who can read the field well and make quick throws downfield. He doubles as a strong and agile runner with the vision to find seams and pick up extra yards. His football knowledge goes well beyond his years, and he has the confidence to excel at every step going into his sophomore year.
Wyatt Tant Wyatt Tant 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Bluffton | 2024 SC , 6-0 175, Bluffton, 2024
His name may not have been the brightest before this season, but Wyatt Tant Wyatt Tant 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Bluffton | 2024 SC is beginning to make himself known for Hayden Gregory’s Bluffton Bobcats. The two-way player has begun to blossom at safety, shutting down some strong competition throughout the summer. He may not be the fastest at his position, but Tant has the tenacity to come up with key plays in timely situations. Expect Tant to be a difference-maker right out of the gate.
