Continue ReadingAfter two weeks of high school football, even more players have started to add yards to their rushing totals. Impressively enough, some of these players have added a large chunk of yards in just two games, that most people would total in 3-4. While the season is far from over, and other players can continue to climb the charts, and change these rankings, we wanted to take some time to recognize some of the top rushing leaders to this point of the season. Feel free to take a look at them below.
Jayden Mason- Calvary Christian
After only 2 games, Jayden Mason has begun to blow the doors off of the competition, as he has already put up 613 total rushing yards, with an average of 306 yards a game. In addition to this, he has already developed an average of 9.4 yards a carry. This has all come with the fact that he has already seen 65 rushing attempts, and 8 TD’s, further proving the point that in high school ball, a few players truly can carry the team on their back. Going into the rest of the season, it will be great to see if he can continue to perform at this rate, and if he can remain consistent with ball security, and the way that he finishes his runs after contact.
Jordan Lovett- Statesboro
Coming in at second place on our list entering into the 3rd week of the high school football season is Jordan Lovett. So far, Lovett has made a name for himself this season, putting Statesboro’s team on his back, helping them to a 1-1 record, after winning a blowout game against Southeast Bulloch last week in which his team came out with a total of 56 points. While they fell short 43-42 the week before, it can also be noted that their offense has performed extremely well, which is largely due to their running game. After 2 weeks, Lovett has racked up 455 yards on 41 carries, and has also averaged an impressive 11 yards a carry. With that, Lovett has also scored 5 times, and has only fumbled once. Going into the rest of the season, look for Lovett to step up for his team even more than he already has, and to receive even more recognition because of it.

is only 9 yards shy of Lovett, it should also be noted that he is only 6 yards ahead of the next rushing leader on this list. This will make for a very tight race as the season continues to progress. Nevertheless, Mitchell has put up 446 yards, and has also racked up an average of 223 yards a game. With this, he has touched the ball 54 times this season, and has seen 5 TD’s as a result of this volume, and the efficiency in which he runs the football. In addition to this, Mitchell also has had a long of 51 yards on one rush, and has proven that his elusiveness is not the easiest to slow down. Expect him to easily add to this total, and to be one of the better backs in the state this season if he keeps performing at this rate.
Fernando Washington- Mount de Sales Academy
Adding to the close margin of rushing totals, Washington has already had a very successful season after two games, as his 440 yards have helped put Mount de Sales Academy in an undefeated position. During his first two games, Washington proved that his elusiveness, and quick running style are enough to allow him to be in position to to lead his team in rushing, while also putting up his fair share of points. This has been proven by the 4 TD’s in which he has already seen on the ground, as well as the average of 10 plus yards a carry, on 41 total touches. As the season progresses, we would like to see him improve in his ball security, and the way that he is able to run through contact.

has also gotten off to a very good start this season, putting up 429 total rushing yards in the 2 games he has played in so far. In these 2 games, he has also averaged around 214 yards a game, with an additional average of 13.8 yards a carry. With this, it should also be noted that Walton has had 31 rushing attempts this season, with a long of 83 yards on one carry. To add to this, these yards are not simply empty yards of production, as he has also had 4 TD’s this season, further adding to the success in which Central has already witnessed this season.
