There’s efficient, and then there’s what J.L. Mann’s Toby Cates Jr. did on Friday. He helped pace the Patriots to a big win over Eastside, and looked unstoppable doing it. Cates only caught three passes on the night. They accounted for 100 yards, and all three were touchdowns. That accounted for half of the scores thrown by Ethan Anderson Ethan Anderson 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB JL Mann | 2024 State SC , who notched an eye-popping 448 passing yards and tossed six touchdowns. Mikel McClellan Mikel McClellan 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR JL Mann | 2024 State SC was on the receiving end of two of those TDs, as he caught six balls for 241 yards.
Across town, Riverside’s Robinson Sanders Robinson Sanders 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Riverside | 2023 State SC went one better than Anderson. He threw for seven scores in just three quarters of work, accounting for 288 passing yards and 25 rushing yards with another score. Four of those TD tosses went to Cayden Crosby, who converted all four of his catches into scores as he notched 144 yards.
Hillcrest’s Bennett Judy Bennett Judy 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Hillcrest | 2023 State SC continued the dominant QB play in the area, tossing four TD passes and racking up 226 yards in the Rams’ win over Laurens. Avery McFadden Avery McFadden 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Hillcrest | 2024 State SC surpassed 100 receiving yards, and BJ Jones returned a kick 91 yards for a score.
St Joseph’s Chris Johnson had a great night. Johnson rushed four times for 87 yards, scored three TDs, and picked off a pass on defense.
Tucker Massey had a huge night for Blue Ridge in a shootout win over Chesnee. Massey accounted for five TDs on the night, tossing scores of 17 and 32 yards to Brody Fowler, and rushing for touchdowns of 3, 6, and 58 yards for the Tigers.
