Here are some of the top returning recieving tight ends in the 2023 class for the upcoming season…
Jelani Thurman Jelani Thurman 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA – Langston Hughes
The new top-ranked tight end in Georgia, Thurman is a long, athletic tight end with excellent hands and athleticism. He has great size at 6-foot-6 235-pounds and a total mismatch for opposing defenders in the passing game. He’s a big target, and when he has the ball, and knows how to pick up big yards down the field. With one of the top 2024 QBs throwing his way last year, the new Ohio State commitment caught 31 passes for 479 yards and 7 touchdowns last fall. He’s one of the more athletic tight ends in the state and quickly rose in the 2023 rankings nationally over the last several months. He’s a high 4-star prospect for a reason, and he has a chance to help lead Langston Hughes to a state-championship run this upcoming season.
Ethan Davis Ethan Davis 6'5" | 200 lbs | TE Collins Hill | 2023 State GA – Collins Hill
A two-sport star and a state champion from last year’s Collins Hill team, Davis is a pass-catching machine at tight end with a great frame at 6-foot-4 225-pounds. He’s an excellent option in the middle of the field and shows soft hands when snatching the football out of the air. Even with Travis Hunter on the roster last year, Davis still made a giant impact in the passing game, catching 61 passes for 755 yards and 8 touchdowns. He’s great after the catch and the No. 2 TE prospect in Georgia according to Prep Redzone. Look for the Tennessee commitment to have an outstanding senior season with more passes likely to come his way. He’s a major weapon not only as a blocker but as a receiver, and he has a chance to be one of Gwinnett County’s leading receivers this fall.
Jackson Head Jackson Head 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE River Ridge | 2023 State GA – River Ridge
One of the more underrated players in the state, Head is a dynamic pass catcher who can line up just about anywhere on offense. At 6-foot-3 225-pounds, Head is a big target who moves really well for his size. He made big play after big play all season for River Ridge last year, catching 47 passes for 695 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was the go-to receiver last year as a junior and will cap off a massive career as a senior next fall. He’s incredibly driven and internally motivated to be his best, and you can see that through his work ethic in the weight room and in practice. As a TE/WR, he has great body control and understands how to use his size to shield off smaller defenders. He has very good hands, catching most everything in his vicinity. His versatility and ability to play multiple positions as a pass catcher make him one of the tougher guys to cover in the region
Levi Linowes – Riverwood
One of the top tight ends in the Atlanta area, Linowes was a big-play waiting to happen as a junior last fall, catching 36 passes for 729 yards and scoring six touchdowns. The 6-foot-3 210-pounder has plenty of size and length with the ability to pick up big yards with each reception, averaging 20.3 yards per reception last season. He’s a decent route-runner for his size and can be tough to bring down after the catch. He has reliable hands and was consistent all season in the passing game last year. Look for his stock to continue to rise over the next several months after a big junior season.
